The Foster Coordinator supports the team by offering daily support, coaching, feedback and ensures departmental day-to-day efficiencies.

The Foster Coordinator helps promote and support a culture of innovation, compassion and excellence with a positive, can-do attitude.

Essential Functions :

  • Assist in the daily coordination and assignment of staff duties and responsibilities.
  • Effectively perform foster staff roles including basic medical appointments, Concierge and Matchmaker.
  • Ensure the department is adequately staffed to meet peak demands while maintaining high levels of customer service such as live answer rate and net promoter surveys.
  • Develop and maintain new hire onboarding, training standards and retention of foster team members.
  • Partner with the Foster Manager, Foster Supervisor and Foster Coordinator regarding work schedules, payroll, staff counseling, department procedures, corrective action and / or employee relations issues.
  • Coach employees on job performance by leading by example and through formal trainings.
  • Offer excellent customer service internally and externally, while also offering escalated support with upset Foster Heroes.
  • Assist in administration of the Foster Department including but not limited to SOPs, training modules, database cleanup, inventory, etc.
  • Facilitate volunteer opportunities with the Volunteer Engagement Department.
  • Work collaboratively with other AHS Departments to enhance organizational efficiency.
  • Coordinate the care and treatment of pets while in Foster Hero care by ensuring efficient and accurate scheduling of appointments, proper animal handling and standards of care.
  • Develop and facilitate team bonding exercises during staff huddles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFIC ATIONS

Education / Certifications / Licenses :

  • High school diploma OR equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in customer service.
  • Six months to one year experience in an animal welfare environment is required.
  • Must be able to handle animals in all conditions and be able to train co-workers and volunteers in job duties and safe animal handling.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :

Language - Able to speak, read and write English; Spanish language helpful.

Mathematical - Basic

Technical - Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary.

Proficiency with or able to learn / use Chameleon software (for use with animals in a shelter environment).

Other Skills, Abilities and Qualifications :

Regular timely attendance. Access to reliable transportation. Must be able to hear above the sound of the animals and be able to speak clearly and communicate well with employees and the public.

Work Environment / Physical Demands :

There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander.

Most time will be spent in a typical air-conditioned and heated office environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
