The basics of this position :

The Graphic Communications program, part of the Communication, Design, Creative Arts Division at St. Louis Community College at Meramec, is seeking a dynamic and innovative Assistant Professor with expertise in motion design, commercial illustration, and interactive design to join our team.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of students pursuing careers in graphic design, digital media, and related fields.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching, a commitment to fostering student success, and a dedication to excellence in both traditional and emerging forms of graphic communication.

What you'll do :

  • Teach a range of courses in graphic communications with a focus on motion design, illustration techniques, and interactive media.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of engaging curriculum that integrates theory and practice, and prepares students for careers in graphic design, animation, digital media production, and related fields.
  • Provide hands-on instruction and guidance to students in design software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, Blender, Autodesk Maya, Cinema 4D, and other relevant software.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration among students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Mentor and advise students on academic and career pathways, helping them to identify their strengths, interests, and goals within the field of graphic communications.
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide initiatives, including curriculum development, assessment activities, and program review processes.
  • Engage in scholarly and creative activities that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of graphic communications and professional practices in the industry.
  • Contribute to the ongoing assessment and accreditation efforts of the Department of Graphic Communications, ensuring compliance with NASAD standards and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the department and across disciplines to promote interdisciplinary learning experiences and interdisciplinary research opportunities.
  • Serve on departmental, divisional, and college-wide committees as assigned, and actively participate in faculty governance and professional development activities.

Education, experience, and other requirements :

A minimum of a BFA in graphic design, visual communication, digital media,

or a related field from an accredited institution.

Minimum two years experience as an instructor.

Minimum one year experience working in a related art field;

A minimum of a BFA in graphic design, visual communication, digital media,

or a related field from an accredited institution.

Minimum four years experience working in a related art field

Preferred Qualifications :

A terminal degree (MFA or equivalent) in graphic design, visual communication, digital media,

or a related field from an accredited institution.

Two years of full-time teaching or equivalent.
