R&D Sustainability Engineer - 227473

The R&D Engineering team excels in innovation, technology, and design to not only meet regulations and customer needs but also to stand out in the infection prevention, control, and device industry.

The R&D Sustainability Engineer is essential in driving innovations that lead to the development of sustainable products, aiming to minimize environmental impact while meeting regulatory and customer expectations.

This role requires staying updated with industry trends and collaborating with both internal and external resources to implement new designs, concepts, and materials that address sustainability needs.

Additionally, the engineer will lead the integration of sustainability within the product development process, evaluating our products' environmental impact from inception to disposal, and gathering data for sustainability reporting.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

• Innovation and Sustainability Leadership :
• Lead the development of science-based, sustainable materials and processes for applicators, chemicals, and packaging.
• Enhance understanding of the current environmental profile of our products.
• Conduct research on customer needs, regulatory trends, and sustainable material innovations.
• Investigate new certifications and environmentally friendly labeling.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration :
• Work with various departments to ensure alignment of projects with sustainability goals and design principles.
• Develop solutions that meet customer needs while promoting sustainability.
• Identify and engage with key external partners to develop innovative sustainable ideas.
• Plan and execute laboratory testing to demonstrate the commercial viability of new sustainability concepts.
• Data Management and Reporting :
• Identify key attributes and systems for reporting sustainability data.
• Collect relevant sustainability data for raw materials throughout the product development lifecycle, including nonwoven materials, formulations, and packaging.
• Community Engagement and Education :
• Embed sustainability principles within the product development process.
• Lead training sessions on sustainability for the organization.
• Communicate strategies to reduce the environmental impacts of our products from inception to disposal.
• Provide regular updates on sustainability progress.
• Proactively drive sustainable product innovations.

Performance Measurements

• Efficient setup and maintenance of the R&D sustainability data management platform.
• Demonstration of research and innovation skills to identify new designs, concepts, and materials for nonwoven materials, formulations, and packaging.
• Effective collaboration with internal and external groups to identify and develop sustainability ideas.
• Integration of sustainability within the product development process.
• Ownership and proactive management of assigned projects and initiatives.

Education :

• Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Master’s degree is advantageous.

Required Knowledge :

• Proficiency in eco-design, Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Product Declarations, energy efficiency, and other sustainability concepts.
• Strong understanding of sustainability regulations and current industry trends.
• Familiarity with R&D processes for the development and launch of new products.

Experience :

• 1 to 4 years of experience in R&D with exposure to product design, development, and change control processes.
• Experience in raw material qualification.
• Proven track record in executing R&D strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to influence and integrate cross-functional teams for project success.
• Experience in innovative thinking and navigating complex challenges.
• Experience interacting with external stakeholders such as suppliers, customers, regulators, and industry groups.
