Position Summary
Structural Field Engineer will report directly to the Area Field Engineer and assist the construction team in the technical aspects of the civil, structural, and architectural scope.
Individual will provide direct support to superintendents and craft professionals, including, but not limited to, work package creation and maintenance, quality control, quantity verifications, material take-offs, material verifications, design change coordination, and general problem solving all in support of meeting project cost and time schedules.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to commodity installations and work sequencing.
- Provides field engineering support and assistance to superintendents, supporting personnel in meeting cost and time schedules, verifies materials, equipment, and quality, and assures results meet design requirements.
- Develops work plans, coordinate material take-offs and requisitions, perform and document inspections, report progress, and resolve conflicts in design and construction related to the installation and testing of civil commodities.
- Performs Civil Field Engineering activities including inspections, audits and planning to support the installation of structural steel and performs rigging support and planning activities for material and equipment.
- Assures procedural compliance, material control, and complete and thorough documentation of inspections for completed work.
- Directs or performs preparation of quantity listings of field purchased material and equipment and initiates requisitions for field material purchases.
- Supports preparation of construction drawings and schedules, design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of as built drawings and other job plans.
- Supports planning and delivery of construction materials and equipment, assuring that proper warehousing and storage exists to ensure environmental protection.
- Review’s specifications, purchase orders, subcontracts, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals, and technical data to assist and advise on site.
- Oversees and coordinates subcontractor work efforts and subcontract changes and interfaces.
Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related subject from an accredited university; or in lieu of a degree, 10+ years of progressive civil related construction / craft experience, civil engineering, and / or civil field engineering experience.
- Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities : extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and / or confined spaces.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
Additional Qualifications
- Understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes, including Standard Work Process Procedures, is preferred.
- Experience in semiconductor fab facilities is preferred.
- Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs), including TEAMWorks, Infoworks or Aconex, BPS or DSCS, PTR or Unifier, Agile, Navisworks, and other automation tools used on Bechtel projects.
- Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
