About the Role :
We are seeking a highly skilled Student Service & Programming Librarian to join our team. In
this role, you will leverage your professional skills to support the Ivy Tech Indianapolis Library by providing research and educational technology assistance to students; assisting with library instruction; and coordinating, marketing, and implementing collaborative
programming offered through the library. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of modeling library research processes, championing customer service experiences across multiple modalities, and a passion for delivering outstanding results in a dynamic environment. This position will also serve as a liaison between the library and several designated academic departments.
Required Skills & Competencies :
Technical Skills : Proficiency in best practices for reference interviews, demonstrated live one-on-one and through written email. Proficiency with computer and web applications on various devices, including Windows PCs, MacBooks, and Google Chromebooks. Proficiency with Microsoft and Google Suites, Zoom, and email and chat applications. Familiarity with pedagogical best practices, with experience teaching complex information to diverse learners.
Analytical Skills : Ability to analyze data, identify and prioritize patterns, and provide data-driven solutions / recommendations. Must have strong attention to detail, with the ability to anticipate and take proactive steps to address stakeholder needs.
Communication Skills : Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly to diverse audiences, provide non-judgmental feedback, and build positive rapport with others. Must be comfortable communicating information to large groups and interpersonally in one-on-one or small-group settings.
Problem-Solving : Ability to think critically, make decisions independently, and solve complex problems in a timely manner.
Teamwork : Proven experience in collaborating effectively with diverse teams to achieve common goals.
Project Management : Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and track progress in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Additional Skills :
Experience in an academic and / or public library role, customer service, or similar environments.
Experience with coordinating, planning, and marketing engaging events.
Familiarity and / or experience with SirsiDynix’s LMS (WorkFlows), Springshare LibApps suite, and Canvas learning management system.
Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude of approachability and adaptability.
Key Responsibilities :
The following is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
Facilitate one-on-one reference assistance in-person and virtually.
Assist students with technology needs, including computer and internet literacy basics and troubleshooting questions related to students’ learning management system, joining Zoom sessions, using Microsoft or Google applications, printing, etc.
Develop creative library programming that aligns with the College’s mission and goals and supports students’ needs and interests.
Coordinate the planning and implementation logistics of library program activities.
Collaboratively partner with cross-departmental stakeholders to plan and market library and library-partnered programming to relevant audiences.
Provide information literacy and technology instruction within the library and for face-to-face and virtual classrooms. Develop learning outcomes, as well as supplemental written and digital materials to support student learning during these sessions.
Collaborate with faculty to design, develop, and assess a broad range of teaching and learning tools to meet curricular needs, including but not limited to web-based tutorials, instructional videos, and subject-specific research guides using LibGuides.
Use established Library protocols to assist team with providing timely responses to Ask a Librarian email inquiries as needed.
Collaborate with faculty and other library liaisons to develop, maintain, and weed print and digital collections that meet the curricular needs of students and faculty.
Assist with library data collection.
Apply advanced problem-solving skills to prioritize exceptional customer service, troubleshoot, and resolve student questions and inquiries.
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams—including faculty—utilizing transparent and empathetic communication to help elevate departmental services and contribute to team initiatives.
Education & Experience :
A MLS or MLIS degree is required. Additionally, we need candidates who can demonstrate the practical skills and experience necessary to excel in this role. A proven track record of providing strong customer service through reference and technology support, as well as instructional experience and / or event planning will be prioritized.
