Benefits Specialist
Works to administer the benefits and wellness programs for Stormont Vail Health. The Benefits Specialist works closely with team members, organizational leaders, and our vendors to communicate, administer and ensure on-going compliance for all medical and wellness plans.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Business, IT, HR or a related field. Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- 3 years HR generalist experience or benefit experience with a bachelor's degree or 5 year's of direct experience without a bachelor's degree. Required
- 1 year Experience using Microsoft Office products. Required
- 1 year FMLA, HRIS, and/or compensation knowledge and benefits administration experience. Preferred

- Microsoft office (excel, word, access and power point) (Required proficiency)
What You Will Do
- The benefits specialist maintains thorough knowledge of benefit plans and related plan documents to enable clear communication regarding plan benefits and procedures to employees. Drafts documents, announcements and other materials for distribution.
- The benefits specialist provides on-going system support for plan administration including plan set-up, premium deductions and remittance, payroll reporting, and enrollments.
- The benefits specialist writes, runs and analyzes reports for plan compliance, usage, and analysis. Resolves discrepancies.
- The benefits specialist represents the benefits team as a customer service liaison whether answering questions, providing education during New Employee Orientation and Provider On-boarding, or through on-going education opportunities.
- The benefits specialist ensures plan administration is aligned with plan document by working closely with external vendors and internal partners. Supports annual audits, on-going eligibility determination, ACA reporting, and compliance testing.
- The benefits specialist partners with the wellness team in delivery of wellness program and related initiatives. Maintains plans and processes within the HRIS system. Writes/runs/prints reports utilizing the HRIS system, including on demand reports/licensing reports.
- Assures company compliance with ERISA, ACA, FMLA, IRS, COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, and DOL.
- Recommend process improvement opportunities to assure processes are completed efficiently and accurately.
- Oversees benefit survey participation and submissions
- Drafts, reviews, and maintains benefit policies
- Responsible for Open Enrollment project support.
- Responsible for processing of payroll related benefits items. Researches and resolves benefit deduction discrepancies.
- Meets one-on-one with new physicians for their HR onboarding & benefit orientation.
- Ensures standard of work is maintained and updated annually. Drafts, reviews, and maintains benefit policies.
