Position Description
Wake Technical Community College is seeking a passionate and experienced Welding Faculty member to join our dynamic team. As a leader in skilled trades education, we are committed to creating a program that is industry-aligned. This position is responsible for teaching assigned classes and laboratories in day and / or evening according to course requirements, mentoring students in our state-of-the-art welding labs, contributing to curriculum development, and fostering an environment where students gain hands-on expertise, confidence, and the skills needed for long-term success in the field.
Responsibilities and Duties (
- Essential Functions)

Assists with establishing goals and objectives for the course, selects text, and constructs a syllabus
Designs curriculum, schedule of instruction, and constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the cours
Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
Uses assessment techniques to improve student learning outcomes and teaching methods
Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom and attends professional development opportunities
Stays current with trends in welding technology, certifications, and workforce needs
Supports recruitment efforts and engages with industry partners to maintain program relevance and creates opportunities for student internships,
apprenticeships, and job placement
Participates in graduation exercises and serves on college or department committees as needed
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills& Abilities :
Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning
Must be innovative, creative, and motivated
Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others
Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently
Good organizational skills and able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision
Knowledge of and facility with technology and software including computers and web-based resources such as BlackBoard
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Demonstrates resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential.
Computer skills using basic functions of MSWord, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
Requirements :
Diploma in Welding, Metal Working, Metal Fabrication or related field in addition to appropriately related work experiences in the field such as a minimum of two years of industry welding experience, a combination of welding and related instructional experience, or professional licensure and certifications related to the teaching assignment.
OR
Associate degree in Welding or related field and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline with at least one year of experience in the Welding industry or at least one year of combined welding and related instructional experience required
Must be able to pass Wake Tech's Welding qualification process

AWSD1.1, ASMEIX, or API1104 Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ)
