Job Description :

Microchip's Frequency and Time Systems (FTS) business unit is a growing, world-leading provider of precision time solutions, setting the global standard for time. The business unit generates, distributes, and applies precise time for the aerospace, defense, communications, IT infrastructure, and metrology industries. Microchip's customers can build more reliable networks and systems by utilizing the company's advanced timing technologies, atomic clocks, services, and solutions. Microchip products support today's precise timing standards, including GPS-based timing, IEEE 1588 (PTP), Network Time Protocol (NTP), Synchronous Ethernet, and more.

Our Government Systems group in Boulder, CO, is seeking a Senior Engineer II - System (Integration Linux+Programming) to join our team of technical professionals supporting complex networked systems. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in Linux administration, network configuration, scripting automation, and hardware integration, with the ability to streamline processes and ensure reliable system performance across multiple environments.

This position plays a key role in developing, integrating, and maintaining systems that bridge hardware and software domains. The engineer will collaborate closely with network architects, software developers, and test engineers to design efficient, scalable, and secure solutions.

  • Support hardware integration efforts, including setup, cabling, and system bring-up activities.
  • Translate customer requirements into formal system architectures and detailed block diagrams to guide engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, refine, and validate technical requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Conduct customer briefings and technical presentations to communicate system capabilities, status updates, integration progress, and risk mitigation.
  • Troubleshoot complex network and system issues across physical and virtual environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define integration requirements and technical documentation.
  • Participate in system design reviews, offering input on architecture, scalability, and reliability improvements.
  • Contribute to process automation initiatives for testing, provisioning, and system monitoring.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving the configuration management and deployment frameworks.
  • Perform vulnerability testing using system test tools (i.e., ACAS / Nessus, Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP), and / or Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)) and remediate flaws within the directed timeframe.

Requirements / Qualifications :

Required :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems Security, Cybersecurity, or related field; or 7+ years of directly related experience.
  • Proven experience in network architecture and switch configuration (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, or similar).

  • Proficiency in Python and shell scripting for automation tasks.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware integration and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management tools and STIG compliance.

  • Familiarity with virtualization or containerization (VMware, Docker, etc.).
  • Exposure to secure system design and compliance-based environments.
  • Prior experience working in a classified or restricted network environment is a plus.
