Riverside, CA • ID: 2195-723 • Full-Time/RegularThe Full-Time Dispatcher serves as a central communications hub for the Campus Safety and Security Department, ensuring the safety and security of the La Sierra University community. This position is responsible for dispatching patrol officers, monitoring security systems, coordinating emergency response, and maintaining detailed activity logs. In addition, the Full-Time Dispatcher plays a key role in training, mentoring, and supporting student dispatcher staff, ensuring consistent application of department protocols and professional standards.
This position requires the ability to remain calm under pressure, exercise sound judgment during emergencies, and communicate clearly with a wide range of campus and external stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Dispatch & Operations
- Maintain continuous radio communication with Campus Safety Patrol Officers.
- Answer and prioritize all incoming calls to the Campus Safety and Security Department, including emergency calls.
- Dispatch and coordinate Campus Safety personnel, EMS, and other emergency responders as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and detailed logs of all Campus Safety and Security activities and incidents.
- Monitor campus surveillance systems, intrusion alarm systems, and access control systems.
- Greet and assist campus guests and visitors, including issuing guest parking passes and providing directions and general assistance.
- Exercise sound judgment in determining response priorities during emergencies and critical incidents.
- Perform all other duties as assigned in support of departmental operations.
Training & Oversight
- Assist with the onboarding, training, and ongoing support of student dispatcher staff.
- Provide guidance to student dispatchers on department procedures, radio protocols, and emergency response practices.
- Reinforce compliance with Campus Safety policies, confidentiality requirements, and professional conduct standards.
- Serve as a resource for student dispatchers during complex or high-stress situations.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally by phone, radio, and in person.
- Ability to type at least 35 words per minute.
- Strong interpersonal skills; friendly, helpful, and service-oriented demeanor.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, and manage competing demands.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and decisive in emergency or high-pressure situations.
- Ability to train and mentor student staff effectively.
- Ability to learn, study, and pass basic CSSP codes and skills assessments (training provided on the job).
- Maintain a professional demeanor and exercise discretion at all times.
- Minimal personal cell phone use during work hours.
Required Education, Certifications, and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must pass a background check; no disqualifying criminal record.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred (training provided if needed).
Schedule and Availability
- Campus Safety and Security operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Shifts may include day, evening, and graveyard hours.
- Must be willing to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
Wage Range: $17.96 – $19.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
