Job description

Construction Manager

Amentum is seeking a Construction Manager for multiple OCONUS locations contingent upon award. The Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing all capital construction work within the assigned country, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the specified quality standards. This role entails full authority and oversight over construction projects, including the coordination of local task orders and the management of multiple site locations. The Construction Manager must efficiently direct subcontractors and skilled workers, manage an Architecture and Engineering (A&E) staff, and adapt quickly to changing priorities and customer needs. This position demands a proactive, solution-oriented approach and the ability to lead diverse teams in achieving project goals.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Lead and manage construction projects valued between $5-10 million, ensuring successful completion through effective planning, execution, and monitoring.

  • Leadership and Coordination: Direct and oversee the work of subcontractors and skilled workers, maintaining high-quality and safety standards.

  • Multi-site Management: Manage multiple site locations, ensuring consistent project execution and resource allocation across all sites.

  • Local Task Orders: Have full authority and oversight for the coordination of all local task order projects, ensuring alignment with overall project goals and timelines.

  • Small Project Management: Efficiently manage small projects in a fast-paced environment, utilizing both in-house labor and local contractors.

  • Cultural and Labor Management: Preferably manage expatriate and local national labor in an overseas environment, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work culture.

  • Adaptability: React quickly to customer needs and changing priorities, demonstrating flexibility and problem-solving skills.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field.

  • Experience: At least five years of work experience in construction management or ten years in trade experience, with at least five years as a site lead.

  • Project Management: Proven experience managing projects of at least $5-10 million.

  • Leadership: Experience in managing an A&E staff, directing sub-contractors, and skilled workers.

  • Multi-tasking Capability: Ability to manage multiple site locations simultaneously.

  • Flexible and Responsive: Ability to react quickly to customer needs and changing priorities.

  • Security Requirements: Must possess a SECRET security clearance at the start of the contract and obtain TOP SECRET access within eight months.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands

  • Work Environment: The role involves working in a dynamic and potentially high-pressure environment with multiple project sites, requiring frequent site visits and coordination across different locations.

  • Physical Demands: The position may require physical activities such as walking, standing, and navigating construction sites. The ability to use construction tools and equipment safely is essential.

  • Mental Demands: The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. The Construction Manager must be able to make quick, effective decisions and adapt to changing priorities and customer needs.

Other Responsibilities: Safety: Amentum enforces a safety culture whereby all employees have the responsibility for continuously developing and maintaining a safe work environment. As appropriate, each employee is responsible for completing all training requirements and fulfilling all self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities, participating in emergency response tasks, and serving on safety committees and teams. Quality: Quality is the foundation for the management of our business and the keystone to our goal of customer satisfaction. It is our policy to consistently provide services that meet customer expectations. Accordingly, each employee must conform to the Amentum Quality Policy and carry out job activities in compliance with applicable Amentum Quality System documents and customer contracts. Each employee must read and understand his/her Quality Management and Customer Satisfaction responsibilities. Procedure Compliance: Each employee must read, understand, and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to his/her job.

Amentum is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. Our hiring practices provide equal opportunity for employment without regard to race, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy (including pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, or medical conditions related to pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding), age, ancestry, United States military or veteran status, color, religion, creed, marital or domestic partner status, medical condition, genetic information, national origin, citizenship status, low-income status, or mental or physical disability so long as the essential functions of the job can be performed with or without reasonable accommodation, or any other protected category under federal, state, or local law.
