The Archdiocese of Washington is hiring a part-time Archival Assistant / Data Entry Clerk to assist with inventory and processing collections within the Archdocesan Archives and Facilities Offices.
This 28 hour per week role will be shared by the Archives and Facilities Departments.
Under the direction of the Director of Archives, the Archival Assistant will inventory and process collections within the Archdiocesan Archives.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Assists the Director of Archives with the appraisal, inventory, and cataloging of archival records.
Rehouses and organizes records
Creates location data for Archival collections
Creates and edits electronic catalog records
All other duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Archives.
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Facilities Management and Real Estate, the Data Entry Clerk will enter information into the Facilities Tree.
Enter information on deeds, leases and other real estate documents into facilities tree
Locate, enter, and scan Architectural drawings
Enter parish statistical and financial information
Required Education and Experience :
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with strong interest in library sciences and archival work.
Graduate student or recent graduate with Master’s degree in History, Public History, or Library Science strongly preferred.
Experience working with archival and historical materials in a museum or archives setting.
Experience doing data entry
Basic understanding of archival and conservation principles.
Maturity to work with confidential materials.
Commitment to working for the Catholic Church and upholding its principles and mission.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Excellence in written communications, interpersonal communication skills required.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately perform repetitive tasks
Understanding of basic office software packages, collections database packages, and photo documentation of collections.
Interest in the history and organization of Catholic Church strongly preferred
Position will require standing, stooping, frequent heavy lifting (25lbs. or more), manual dexterity, visual acuity, physical stamina
