Here's a summary of responsibilities:
Under the direction and supervision of the Lead Health Care Services Provider, provide for injury examination, evaluation, and extended rehabilitation of athletes participating in the Team USA Recovery Program, supporting return-to-performance through coordinated care within a multidisciplinary team environment. The HCSP is clinically competent and continuously maintains licensure/certification in Athletic Training. The HCSP has experience in the care of elite athlete populations, good oral and written communication skills, and competency in creating and completing medical documentation. Collaboration amongst the Sports Medicine team, Performance staff, and other USOPC departments is a core component of this role. This role has an anticipated duration of two years (July 2026 to June 2028).
Here’s how you’ll have an impact:
  1. Deliver high-performance sports medicine care as a member of a multidisciplinary team in accordance with the licensure and scope of practice, including injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and safe return to performance. Health care may include emergency care, active care rehabilitation interventions, therapeutic modalities, and manual therapies. Assist with patient management plans, to include arranging referrals to external providers as appropriate. Perform additional allied duties, as permitted by state law.
  2. Participate in the maintenance of emergency standards for Colorado Springs (CS) staff to include but not limited to, emergency equipment, emergency response management, and the Emergency Action Plan.
  3. Refer to and accept referrals from medical team members including physicians, chiropractors, physical therapists, certified athletic trainers, USOPC Sport Performance staff, external stakeholders, and others as appropriate. Participate in the daily care of athletes, including performance-enhancing, preventative, and routine cares.
  4. Serve as a key member of the integrated care team, contributing to multidisciplinary case discussions and communicating athlete status updates to all relevant stakeholders.
  5. Maintain compliance with IOC, WADA, USADA, and the Olympic & Paralympic Code in order to provide for maximum sports performance from each athlete, while maintaining knowledge of up-to-date techniques in the enhancement, prevention, and care of athletic injuries.
  6. Record and enter athlete medical data into electronic medical record system in a timely manner for maintenance of athlete medical records. Design and implement management plans through the use of USOPC technology and innovation projects.
  7. Assist in developing and maintaining professional working relationships including Sports Performance partners, NGBs, and outside parties.
  8. Work inclusively and collaboratively with fellow clinicians, high performance staff, NGB staff, coaches, athletes, and other staff members regarding maintaining and enhancing the athletes’ health in support of sustainable high performance.
  9. Coordinate and execute special projects and other duties as assigned.

Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be effective:
When applicable, state licensure in the field of expertise must be obtained and continuously maintained throughout the course of employment. Forward proof to Vice President, Sports Medicine within 3 months of employment start date. No infractions or any form of disciplinary sanctions is acceptable prior to or during the course of employment.
  • Master’s degree in Athletic Training
  • Doctorate degree in Athletic Training preferred
  • Current Health Care Provider CPR certification
  • Licensure or certificate in good standing as an Athletic Trainer
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist preferred
  • Emergency medical training preferred
  • Soft tissue certification preferred
  • Certification in Anti-Doping training completed within 30 days of start date
  • Certification in SafeSport training completed within 30 days of start date
  • Documented significant experience working with elite high-performance athletes
  • 3 years of clinical experience
  • 2 years of sports medicine experience after licensure – experience with a variety of elite-level athletes and sports preferred
  • Documented significant manual therapy experience
  • Electronic Medical Record experience preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including medical documentation
  • Knowledge of medical charting and experience with electronic health records
  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel computer programs and technologies
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population including, but not limited to, athletes, coaches, administrative staff, physicians, volunteers, and other medical personnel
  • Knowledge in the areas of:
    1. Injury/illness prevention and treatment
    2. Sport Performance enhancement
    3. Emergency medicine skills
    4. Annual Blood Borne Pathogen training
    5. Athletic taping
    6. Concussion management

Here's some more information you need to know:
  • Hiring pay range $60,000 - $72,000 per year.
  • This Full-Time, Exempt position is intended to work 40 hours per week.
  • Bonus: This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program, which has a 15% target. The USOPC may change or eliminate this program at any time at its sole discretion.
