Job description

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented HIM facility coder to join our team. At NorthBay, you will play a crucial role in accurately translating medical procedures and diagnoses into ICD 10, CPT and HCPCS codes in an accurate and timely manner for inpatient, outpatient, surgery and observation cases in the hospital and ASC settings. Our ideal candidate is a dedicated, knowledgeable individual with a strong understanding of clinical content, medical terminology, coding guidelines, regulations, and proficiency in utilizing an EHR / encoder system. Abstracts demographic and physician data to meet both internal and regulatory requirements for reporting utilizing the hospital's abstracting system. All work is carried out in accordance with the rules, regulations and coding conventions of the American Hospital Association (Coding Clinic), ICD, CMS, NCD / LCD guidelines, HCAI, and NorthBay Health coding guidelines. Education : High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Certification : Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). Experience :

  • Two (2) years continuous ICD10 / CPT coding and abstracting experience in an acute care setting within the last 5 years.
  • One to two (1-2) years inpatient coding experience preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records / encoder systems required. Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease process, reimbursement methodologies (DRGs, HCCs, APCs), and the conventions, rules and guidelines for current coding classification (ICD10-CM, CPT and HCPCS).
  • Demonstrated understanding of the clinical content of a health record.
  • Microsoft Office : Email, Word, Excel.
  • Ability and desire to hit metrics upon training (idle time is also monitored on this hourly paid position).
  • Technically savvy (ability to learn software and troubleshoot equipment as needed).
  • Must have a private, distraction-free area in your home for working (HIPAA reasons).
  • Web-cam training will be used frequently for team engagement.

Hours of Work : Days Monday through Friday as assigned based on business need. Compensation : $50 to $61 per hour based on years of experience doing the duties of the role.
