FACILITY ATTENDANT-LIBRARY
12 Hours per week : Saturday 8 : 30 a.m. - 5 : 30 p.m. (1 hour lunch), Sunday 1 : 30 p.m. - 5 : 30 p.m.
Rate of pay : $23.29 - $29.89 per hour

Definition
Semi-skilled manual and custodial work primarily related to the care and maintenance of the public library buildings; other related work as required.
Supervision
Works under the direction of the Supervisor of Custodians. May receive work order requests from the library director. The Supervisor of Custodians provides direction when there is conflicting or competing requests to be completed.
Work Environment
Work is performed under variable conditions, with exposure to dust and dirt; grounds maintenance work may involve exposure to variable weather conditions.
The employee operates vacuum cleaners and other custodial equipment.
The employee has contact with other town employees, vendors and the general public.
Errors could result in injury to self or others, damage to buildings and equipment, safety hazards, delay or loss of service, some monetary loss, and legal repercussions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
Maintains the security of the facility; is aware of opening and closing procedures; activates alarm system. Assists public works department as needed in shoveling snow and keeping stairways and walkways safe during inclement weather. Picks up litter from exterior grounds as needed.
Empties exterior book returns. Re-stocks supplies in the restrooms. Fills Library van with gas as needed.
Responsible for spot-cleaning restrooms when necessary for safety and hygiene. Responsible for noticing problems with the interior and exterior of the building. Creates work tickets for interior building issues through Facilities Department work ticketing system and may be assigned library-related work tickets by Facilities Department personnel. Reports exterior building issues the Custodial Supervisor.
Interacts with community groups using the meeting rooms, especially at closing time. Moves and sets up furniture and equipment. moves donation materials to storage
Empty outside materials Book Drop.
Performs similar or related work as required, or as the situation dictates.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school diploma : experience in custodial and building maintenance work preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements
Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator's license required.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill
General knowledge of cleaning methods. Knowledge of basic building maintenance techniques preferred.
Ability to read and write English. Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a timely fashion. Ability to use initiative and work independently. Ability to handle responsibility and to make decisions quickly. Ability to operate a smartphone, tablet and / or computer.
Good communications skills, especially listening and understanding, and good verbal skills.
Physical Requirements
Constant moderate physical effort is required, with occasional strenuous effort demanded. Position requires extensive walking, reaching, standing, stooping and climbing when performing functions. The employee is occasionally required to climb a ladder and / or to lift, move, and / or push furniture and equipment weighing up to 60 pounds. Physical agility is required to access all areas to be cleared. Requires vision adequate to operate hand tools and drive a motor vehicle.
