Job Description

The Outdoor School Supervisor at the Whitewater Center (Whitewater) is responsible for oversight of the Educational Adventures (EA), Team Development, and Summer Camp programs within the Outdoor School (OS). T while creating a vision to continue the growth and expansion of the school. The OS Supervisor is an on-site, full-time, benefits eligible position and reports directly to the Outdoor School Manager.

Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for organizing and managing logistical and operational needs of EA, Team Development, and Summer Camp groups prior to and while they are on site at the Whitewater Center.
  • Oversee recruiting, hiring, and implement training for Outdoor School staff, including Educational Adventures., Team Development, and Summer Camps.
  • Oversee ongoing curriculum development for EA programs for grades K5-HS that correlate to grade level standards (national and state).
  • Oversee daily summer camp schedule for all campers, assist with managing staff, and work with other departments to ensure a quality experience.
  • Ensure quality supervision and safety for guests participating in an EA, Team Development, and / or Summer Camp program.
  • Market Outdoor School programs through outreach events and relationships with community partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, Environmental Education, Outdoor Recreation, Biology, or another related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership / supervisory role.
  • Excellent driving record with no major infractions or unsafe conduct – position requires driving a 15-passenger van while towing utility trailers of varying sizes.
  • Certifications in CPR and First Aid.
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Organized, patient and ability to quickly adjust as required to accommodate the needs of our groups.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and during Whitewater events as needed.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Wilderness Medicine certifications.
  • Physical Demands

  • Must be able to safely self-transport over uneven terrain or in a confined space.
  • Must be able to bend, lean, stand, and kneel on a regular basis and for sustained periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and move at least 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work outdoors for sustained periods of time and in all weather and environmental conditions.
  • Must be able to work in shared spaces with other employees and customers.
  • All positions at Whitewater require employees to report and work onsite at Whitewater locations.

  • Overview of Department

    The Outdoor Activities Department is responsible for leading and supporting experiences in a variety of water and land-based sports. The department also instructs guests through the Whitewater Center’s Outdoor School and Summer Camps. Outdoor Activities employees engage with guests through an assortment of pass activities and help create memorable outdoor experiences.
