Are you a dedicated individual with a passion for municipal civil engineering? We're currently seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our Governmental Services group, based in Des Moines, IA.

In this role, you'll collaborate with local governments across the United States, providing essential municipal engineering services, on-call consulting, and public works staff augmentation.

SUMMARY

As a Senior Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in winning and delivering significant projects for both existing and new clients.

Your responsibilities include leading the business development process, with expectations for substantial annual sales or revenue generation.

By planning, executing, and delivering complex projects, you'll meet customer expectations while optimizing internal resources to achieve scope, fee, and schedule goals, ultimately delivering the expected margin.

As the Senior Project Manager, you'll also serve as the Client Service Manager for strategically important clients, influencing the overall direction of your region or area of expertise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Management :

  • Acts as the Client Service Manager for strategically important clients, engaging with senior-level stakeholders, including local, state, and national political decision-makers.
  • Demonstrates the attributes of a Trusted Advisor, offering expertise and value beyond technical project execution.
  • Anticipates and meets client needs, consistently exceeding internal and external customer expectations.
  • Recommends additional business solutions to address current and future client needs.

Business Development :

  • Develops market assessments and supports the development and execution of national or regional market strategy.
  • Leads the project pursuit process, serving as the Pursuit Lead for significant revenue streams.
  • Manages proposal development and interview preparation, ensuring the company's competitive positioning.
  • Exceeds region-specific sales targets by leveraging existing client relationships and employing targeted marketing efforts.
  • Responsible for generating meaningful annual revenue streams.

Project Management :

  • Manages or advises on highly specialized, complex, and strategic projects, collaborating with task leaders to ensure effective execution
  • Proactively anticipates and navigates complex client, political, or technical issues to mitigate impacts on project delivery.
  • Leads the development of scope, fee, and contracts, ensuring clarity of project deliverables.
  • Builds and manages Project Plans, updating them to facilitate companywide workload planning processes.
  • Directs and reviews the work of junior staff, ensuring adherence to quality control and assurance processes.
  • Manages annual revenue.
  • Initiates changes in scope, addendums, and change orders to ensure project financial performance.
  • Provides individual technical contributions to projects under management.

Team Leadership :

  • Identifies necessary time and resources for project delivery, building effective project teams.
  • Manages projects by assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and holding team members accountable.
  • Leads Project Team Meetings, resolving conflicts and diffusing issues between team members.

Project Financials :

  • Provides budgetary guidance and oversight to Project Managers.
  • Develops and analyzes financial reports, monitoring and resolving issues such as scope creep, cost overruns, change orders, and delays.
  • Ensures client billing aligns with the contract schedule.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in related engineering discipline.
  • Professionally registered (P.E.) in the state in which HR Green Inc. conducts business.
  • Has worked a minimum of 5-7 years as a Project Manager.
  • Ability to sell work to existing clients with demonstrated experience pursuing and winning work.
  • Demonstrated strong business development competency by obtaining significant new business and / or cross-selling additional consulting services.
  • Has a history of successfully completing complex projects for small and / or large client bases.
  • Has been actively involved in one or more industry groups.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES

Must possess a current, valid Professional Engineer, Architect or related state license. The employee must be capable of driving / operating a motor vehicle for company business, and maintain a valid driver’s license in the state of residence.
