The DEA requires qualified digital forensic examiners to conduct identification, collection, preservation, documentation and analysis of digital evidence.

The DEA also requires qualified Discovery staff in support eDiscovery services. The DEA requires the following support staff : program analyst, research and develop engineers, senior system architect, and a senior system administrator.

The primary place of work performance is the Digital Evidence Laboratory at 8550 Cinder Bed Road, Suite 500, Lorton, Virginia 22079, but may also include positions permanently located at other DEA facilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

The Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting eDiscovery platforms in support of the eDiscovery group, currently but not limited to the eDiscovery platform Relativity.

The Infrastructure Engineer shall have extensive experience managing and troubleshooting Relativity. It is expected that the Infrastructure engineer have mastery of most skills of a Junior eDiscovery Analyst.

  • The Infrastructure Engineer's duties may include all those assigned to a Junior eDiscovery Analyst and additional duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :
  • Daily management of Relativity environment uptime.
  • Analysis of the DEA network team's operating system and network updates for impacts to the current eDiscovery platform, currently Relativity.
  • Research and deployment of Relativity server and application patches.
  • In-depth server troubleshooting, to include Relativity and virtual machine log analysis.
  • Expert knowledge of IIS.
  • Expert knowledge of the Relativity Processing Console ("RPC") for Relativity Processing troubleshooting.
  • Expert knowledge of certificate creation, deployment and maintenance in a highly secure environment.
  • The planning and execution of regular Relativity server upgrades to result in negligible environment downtime.
  • Flexibility to perform Relativity application server maintenance and troubleshooting during odd hours as needed, sometimes well outside a normal workweek (e.

g. late nights and / or weekends).

  • The ability to persist troubleshooting difficult issues until resolution.
  • The ability to provide timely : resolutions, agile responses to tasks, responses to requests, and research.
  • The ability and skillset to perform Relativity smoke tests to verify successful upgrades and patches and to identify potential issues as the result of same.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate sophisticated issues and resolutions to laypersons in time-sensitive situations.
  • Excellent grammar, phone skills, and professional in-person demeanor.
  • The individual shall be highly dependable, self-starting, and use active rather than passive means to perform assigned tasks.
  • Jr. eDiscovery Analyst duties that would be expected of an Infrastructure Engineer.
  • Utilizing standardized eDiscovery software tools such as Relativity, Clearwell, Concordance, or other enterprise tools.
  • Ensuring complete and accurate project documentation is created and maintained.
  • Identifying, preserving, collecting, and producing Electronically Stored Information (ESI) in response to discovery requests.
  • Managing eDiscovery production and prepare data analysis reports and documentation.
  • Ensuring proper data handling procedures and chain of custody.
  • Assisting with the eDiscovery process from ingestion to production of eDiscovery materials, up to and through data archiving.
  • Conducting complex Boolean searches and generation of reports in an eDiscovery platform, currently Relativity.
  • Processing, ingesting, integrating and organizing native files and loading data from digital media sources into an eDiscovery platform, currently Relativity.
  • Daily client contact and working in high pressure court deadline-driven environments.
  • Identifies and addresses data quality issues.
  • Providing expert witness testimony as needed.
  • Performing other laboratory functions as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, COMPETENCIES :

  • 7 years or more of eDiscovery experience
  • Experience in the use of standardized e-Discovery software tools such as Relativity, Clearwell, Concordance, or other enterprise tools

CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING REQUIRED :

Relativity infrastructure certification highly preferred, but 7-10 years of Relativity infrastructure maintenance experience may be substituted.

EDUCATION :

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 24 credit hours in computer science, engineering or mathematics
