Job Summary :

Oversight over budgeting, controls, and other financial matters for the Operations department. Responsible for supporting Operations leadership cost management activities through cost tracking, reporting and communication.

Executes direction from senior leadership and ensures all various business units and departments within Operations align with overall strategic directives.

Oversees the compilation of data based on statistical studies and analysis of past and current years to prepare the company budget and to justify funds requested.

Takes a leadership role in identifying financial opportunities and challenges and proactively designs and implements solutions.

Regularly works with teams across the organization to coordinate on executing complex financial and operational issues. Directs others on their team and laterally directs others to implement tactical and strategic objectives.

  • Reviews operational budgets and analyze trends affecting company budget needs;
  • Requires a high-level of communication between Operational Regional and Fleet leadership on costs related to spending decisions
  • Develops the strategy, and provides leadership in the overarching design, development, and implementation of standardized business planning, tracking, and reporting.
  • Provides analysis of the initiatives in the business plan to the budget and spending plan for reporting to the executive leadership periodically on the overall performance against the budget.
  • Directs the overall development, coordination, and technical direction of budgeting, and financial management at the company level, and ensures consistency with Calpine policy.
  • Specific areas of responsibility may include topics such as end-to-end design and rollout of financial management systems (Peoplesoft, Maximo, etc.

Providing Commercial pro-forma cost analysis and contract design, and input regarding financial approach and strategy.

Job Scope and Span of Control

  • Manages multiple department functions with an operational focus and / or has expert knowledge in key functional areas.
  • May oversee activities of the broad functional area through first-level management and professionals, including full human resources, cost, and budgetary accountability.
  • Seasoned, experienced innovative professional.
  • Use advanced knowledge of own function and broad knowledge of other functions

Decision Making & Impact

  • Decisions typically related to the implementation of department strategy, intradepartmental coordination, and business outcomes.
  • Serves as senior advisor to management; influences highly complex decisions regarding the direction or operation of the department.
  • Results have a significant impact on costs and achievement of department objectives.
  • Makes decisions for large-scale projects, a closely related set of projects and / or initiatives involving multiple functional areas.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, prefer Master’s Degree.
  • Previous project management experience.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 15+ years’ experience in accounting and / or finance, or related.
