IT Systems Administrator
Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the IT Systems Administrator is to assist the IT Director in supporting the stable operation of the in-house computer network.
This includes planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links while ensuring a high level of security and minimal network downtime.
The person will also diagnose, resolve, and document hardware and software network problems for all CCI locations in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training and support where required.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Resolve user requests related to the job function in user friendly language
- Provide backup support to IT Systems Technician in the processing of Daily, Weekly, and Monthly iSeries jobs and report distribution
- Maintain documentation per the Infrastructure Change Control Policy
- Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware, software, networked peripheral devices, cabling, and networking hardware and software
- Assist with the maintenance of servers, including directory, e-mail, print and backup servers and OS patching procedures.
- Assist with the maintenance of security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems
- Assist with the maintenance of all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, and UPSs
- Monitor and test network performance and provide performance statistics and reports
- Respond to incoming calls, pages, and / or e-mails regarding network connectivity problems
- Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex network problems for a variety of end users, and recommend and implement corrective hardware and software solutions, including off-site repair
- Assist in the recommendation and performance of network upgrades and repairs
- Support development and implementation of networking projects and new technology
- Perform system backups and recovery
- Assist with new server deployment operations
- Prepare, maintain, and follow procedures for logging, reporting, and monitoring network data
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
Evaluate and recommend for purchase networking hardware and software products
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory
- Liaise with, and provide training and support to, IT Operations support staff on network issues
- Prepare and ensure accuracy of documentation, procedures manuals, and help sheets for network installations, including data, voice, and video systems
- Aid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans and maintain current knowledge of plan executables.
Respond to emergency network outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
- Manage cellular carrier plans and equipment purchases
- Responsible for purchasing printing supplies and other technology supplies
- Available for on-call support
Qualifications and Competencies
- 5+ Years of experience supporting IT Operations infrastructure environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related discipline is required.
- Understanding of hardware / software testing and troubleshooting methodology.
- Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, etc.
- Professional certification, such as Microsoft 365, Azure, Cisco.
- Experience with leading server management and monitoring tools.
- Strong communication skills for training and assisting users.
