OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

This is a 29.9 hour a week position under the direct supervision from the Director of Aquatics & Risk Management and Coordinator of Aquatics.

The Aquatics & Risk Management Supervisor will be responsible for assisting the Director of Aquatics & Risk Management and Coordinator of Aquatics with Recreation and Physical Education programs.

This will include departmentally focused risk management initiatives, planning, and safety courses. Additionally, this position will support the overall mission of Duke Recreation and Physical Education.

Essential Functions

Assist the Director of Aquatics and Risk Management with research, review, evaluation, and enhancement of current Duke Recreation and P.

E. risk management policies and procedures.

  • Help conduct departmental risk assessments and reviews, as well as maintaining current risk management policies and procedures.
  • Support the Director of Aquatics & Risk Management with administrative tasks such as filing, scanning, and maintaining spreadsheets.
  • Aid in the Instruction of American Red Cross Safety Courses, as well as In-Service Trainings.
  • Maintain and track safety equipment, including, though not limited to First Aid Kits, Lifeguard equipment, First Aid / CPR / AED equipment, and AEDs.
  • Work with the Coordinator of Aquatics with special events and programming logistics, protocols, and safety plans.

Qualifications :

  • Education and Experience : High School Diploma
  • Previous risk management experience
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Database experience preferred

Licenses :

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle
  • Must possess a valid CPR / AED / First Aid Certification
  • Must be willing and able to obtain Lifeguard Certification
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred
  • CPR / AED / First Aid Certification Instructor preferred

Supervision Received

Reports to the Director of Aquatics and Risk Management. Day-to-day functions should be accomplished with minimal guidance or supervision in accordance with established policies and directives.

Overall guidance is accomplished through supervisory conferences and executing tasks, goals, and objectives.

Supervision Exercised

Assist with the supervision of Aquatics staff.

Responsibility for Confidential Data

This position will have access to records which include confidential data. The individual in this position must be judicious in the discussion of information contained therein and adhere to laws relating to the confidentiality of information.

Marginal Functions of the Job

The ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Requires early morning, evening, holiday and weekend work. Performs other work-related duties as directed.

Type and extent of instructions or directions normally given to the incumbent of this position by the immediate supervisor.

Acts independently without the need for daily supervision. Seeks guidance when necessary and must keep the supervisor informed of area operations and potential problems.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires knowledge of basic mathematical, research and communications principles normally acquired through two years of postsecondary education.

Experience

Work generally requires two years of clerical or research experience OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE to acquire skills in administrative or project research responsibilities as well as accepted office organization, communications and research practices.

A bachelor's degree in a field of study directly related to the specific position may be substituted for the education and experience requirement.
