We are looking for a
Senior Support Technician (Support System Administrator) for a long-term contract opportunity. You will support the migration and modernization of end-of-life (EOL) systems, including legacy Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, ensuring improved security, performance, and operational continuity.
Responsibilities: • Assess and analyze legacy systems, including Windows Server (2012 and older) and RHEL 5/6/7 environments.
• Develop and execute migration strategies to upgrade systems to supported OS versions (Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 and RHEL 8/9).
• Perform system migrations using reinstallation best practices while minimizing downtime and ensuring compatibility.
• Implement and manage backup and recovery strategies throughout migration processes.
• Conduct post-upgrade validation including performance checks, application compatibility, and system functionality.
• Reconfigure system settings including networking, storage, and security after OS upgrades.
• Utilize configuration management tools such as Ansible and PowerShell for system consistency and automation.
• Perform system hardening, patching, and vulnerability remediation to enhance security posture.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies and industry standards such as CIS Benchmarks and NIST.
• Troubleshoot and resolve system, application, and OS-level issues during and after migration.
• Provide ongoing post-migration support to ensure system stability and performance.
• Maintain detailed documentation of migration processes, configurations, and system updates.
• Update system records including CMDB and related documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure successful implementations.
• Communicate effectively with end-users regarding system changes, downtime, and updates.
• Develop training materials and provide knowledge transfer to internal teams.
• Support backup solutions and disaster recovery planning, including testing recovery procedures.
• Conduct post-implementation audits and identify opportunities for optimization and improvement.
You: • 8+ years of experience with RHEL and Windows operating systems.
• Strong experience supporting and upgrading legacy systems in enterprise environments.
• Experience with system migration, OS upgrades, and infrastructure modernization.
• Proficiency with configuration management and automation tools (Ansible, PowerShell).
• Experience with system hardening, patch management, and vulnerability remediation.
• Knowledge of security frameworks and compliance standards (CIS, NIST).
• Strong troubleshooting skills across OS, hardware, and application layers.
• Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
• Ability to document technical processes and maintain system records.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
• Experience supporting hardware, software, and peripheral systems.
• Ability to train users and provide technical guidance to team members.
• Experience with IT operations, help desk support, and system administration.
• Familiarity with data transfer processes across local, state, or federal systems preferred.
• Ability to prepare reports, briefings, and system evaluations.
