Job Duties:
The Virginia Beach Police Department is seeking a critically thinking and self‑learning Business Application Specialist I to assist with upcoming technology‑related departmental projects while maintaining existing systems and equipment. This position operates in a fast‑paced environment and will serve as a key member of the Police Department Technology Unit.

Criminal History: Conviction of any felony or any crime involving moral turpitude (crimes contrary to justice, honesty, or good morals). Traffic Violations: Any conviction of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, refusal to take blood or breath test, eluding police, racing, or leaving the scene of an accident within the last 5 years.
Drugs: Any involvement in the sale of illegal drugs as an adult. Any illegal use or possession of any illegal drug, including but not limited to heroin, cocaine, hallucinogens, or any derivative thereof (except marijuana) within the last five years. Illegal possession of anabolic steroids within the last 36 months.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Any combination of education (above high school), training, and/or experience equivalent to four (4) years in a field related to functional support for automated business operations in a network or server-based environment for the agency where the IT services are being used, utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. May be required to have or obtain a valid drivers license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. CJIS/VCIN/NCIC certification is required, in addition to the successful completion of a background check, candidates must have U.S. citizenship or be a lawful resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
Successful completion of a police background investigation, including polygraph exam.
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City’s operational status.

In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate for this position will have experience or skills listed in the preferences below. Candidates with the preferred experience should ensure the information is provided in the application.
The ideal candidate should have:
o VCIN certified
o Experience providing support to Public Safety
o Experience with records management applications or similar software
o Experience serving as system admin, power user, or similar role
o Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
o Experience using Microsoft Office products or similar programs at a proficient level
o Experience in providing training sessions and training documents
o Ability to effectively communicate with users of varied levels of technological competency
o Experience providing quality customer service to internal customers and external vendors customers
o Organizational Skills
o Detail oriented with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
o Ability to prioritize tasks and maximize efficiency
o Ability to work with minimal supervision
