The City of Hampton's Steam Plant is looking for an experienced operator!

Are you looking for a hands-on, high-responsibility role in a challenging technical field? This position is your gateway to a rewarding career in steam plant operations. You'll gain the knowledge and skills needed to monitor and control steam plant systems and equipment! Working under general supervision, you'll follow established procedures but also develop the judgment to decide how and when to carry out tasks - preparing you for real-world challenges and career advancement.
Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience in high pressure (250 PSI or over) steam generating plant operations or closely related experience.
• Must possess a valid Virginia Class I and IV boiler operator's license or obtain within 24 months of employment.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.
• Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements

• The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
