ABOUT The Navy’s Advanced Electronics / Computer Field (AECF) provides industry-leading training in electronics, computer systems, radar, communications, and weapons fire control technology. ETs and FCs play a key role in the ship’s Combat Systems department, ensuring equipment is mission-ready across the fleet. Responsibilities As an Electronics Technician (ET) or Fire Controlman (FC), you will : Maintain and repair radar, communication, and navigation equipment. Operate, maintain, and repair fire control radars, mainframe computers, large display systems, LANs, weapon control consoles, and automatic gun systems. Troubleshoot electro-mechanical components within weapons systems. Support combat systems readiness aboard aircraft carriers, Aegis cruisers, and other surface ships. Work Environment ETs and FCs serve worldwide on deployed ships and at shore-based technical facilities. Work is hands-on, highly technical, and requires accuracy, problem-solving, and strong teamwork. Assignments may include shipboard duty, remote locations, and specialized repair shops. Training & Advancement Apprentice Technical Training – Great Lakes, IL (11 weeks) FC Strand – Great Lakes, IL (16 weeks) ET Strand – Great Lakes, IL (22 weeks) Training includes electronics theory, radar systems, communication suites, missile and gun system ballistics, troubleshooting, and fiber optics. After completing “A” School, sailors may advance to specialized “C” Schools. Many training programs offer college credit.
