This role is responsible for defining, developing, validating, and releasing ADAS‑related control system requirements in alignment with PACCAR’s architecture standards, software release processes, and program milestones.

The ADAS CSO will serve as the primary technical owner of specific ADAS control systems (e.g., camera ECUs, radar ECUs, perception modules, domain controllers) and will collaborate closely with System Owners, EE Architecture, PACCAR Electronics, suppliers, validation teams, Vehicle Integration, and Manufacturing.

This position requires strong technical ownership, rigorous requirements definition, disciplined validation planning, and the ability to ensure that supplier‑delivered systems meet PACCAR’s performance, safety, cybersecurity, and diagnostic expectations. The candidate will be instrumental in delivering high‑quality ADAS features to customers by driving consistent execution across development cycles, pilot builds, and production launches.

  • Maintain knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and installation constraints to ensure robust ECU design and integration.
  • Develop, maintain, and align ECU‑level technical requirement specifications (functional, safety, cybersecurity, architecture) with system‑level ADAS feature intent and customer use cases.
  • Contribute to program-level Product Description Book (PDB) content by identifying capabilities, constraints, and customer impacts.
  • Ensure requirements and communication interfaces are consistent with System Owners, Product Planning, and EE Architecture teams.
  • Lead all technical engagement with the ECU supplier, including requirements alignment, development oversight, maturity reviews, and software readiness.
  • Author and maintain Technical Process Requirements Specifications (TPRS) outlining supplier expectations, toolchains, and RASIC roles.
  • Monitor supplier technology roadmaps and guide forward‑looking improvements for future programs.
  • Lead ECU validation through DVP&R planning, sample coordination, HIL and on‑vehicle testing, and defect resolution.
  • Track software timing, maturity, risks, and integration readiness across programs.
  • Ensure ECU‑related issues are identified, managed, and closed using PACCAR’s issue‑tracking processes.
  • Communicate development status, risks, validation progress, and release readiness to program and technical leadership.
  • Support pilot builds, production release activities (ECNs, REIs, PPAP), and resolve manufacturing or field issues related to ECU performance.
  • Provide technical guidance to manufacturing, service, and field teams regarding ECU operation, diagnostics, and integration behaviors.
  • Create or contribute to service and diagnostic documentation ensuring programming, serviceability, and troubleshooting meet PACCAR standards.
  • Some travel will be required.

Job Responsibilities Cont.

  • Coordinates and completes projects and design efforts with other engineering groups and departments within the Company.
  • Provide engineering assistance, perform problem resolution, training and other engineering duties supporting various aspects of heavy truck production.
  • Follow software defect resolution life cycle for internal and external owners and bring them to a closure.
  • Assigns, approves, performs or delegates design modifications as appropriate.
  • Completes design projects and manufacturing process changes from planning, calculation and design analysis, design, testing, evaluation and implementation necessary for successful completion.
  • Prepares engineering activity status reports and other detailed reporting as directed.
  • Up to 5% travel may be required.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles for electronics and software development, including the systems V model, agile methods, functional safety/cybersecurity, ASPICE, SOTIF, and integration planning and execution.
  • Working knowledge of ADAS sensors, perception systems, ECU functionality, and related diagnostics/validation methods (e.g., DVP&R, HIL, automated testing).
  • Strong understanding of vehicle communication networks (J1939, CAN, automotive Ethernet) and ability to interpret electrical schematics, harness interfaces, connector pinouts, and power/grounding requirements.
  • Awareness of mechanical packaging considerations such as mounting, thermal constraints, field of view, and vibration.
  • Knowledge on Heavy duty and Medium duty Commercial trucks
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and system integration domains.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with software engineers, EE architecture, electrical/harness, mechanical packaging, HIL labs, validation organizations, and external suppliers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for leading cross‑functional technical discussions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deliverables, drive defect resolution, and meet program schedules.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with requirements/defect management tools such as DOORS, HPQC, or Jira.
