Job description

Description

Alta Planning + Design seeks an experienced Program Manager (TDM Programs Associate I) located in metro Austin, TX. This role is a great opportunity for someone with experience, passion, and expertise in active, multimodal, and sustainable transportation. If you are looking to join an innovative organization and do work that connects people to places while advancing social justice, safety, and environmental resilience, apply with Alta today!

About Alta

Alta is a mission‑driven company working to mitigate climate change and advance safety and social justice by shaping sustainable, people‑centered communities. We bring together expertise across planning, design, engineering, education and encouragement programs, and community engagement to help communities thrive. Our work is grounded in the belief that how places are designed and experienced has a profound impact on equity, health, and opportunity—and that people should always be at the heart of those decisions.

Founded in 1996, Alta was at the forefront of the active transportation movement and has spent nearly 30 years partnering with communities to imagine a more connected, resilient, and inclusive future. Today, with more than 225 staff across the United States and beyond, we are a global leader in creating environments that support everyday life, strengthen human connection, and respond to the challenges of a changing world. Alta offers the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines, contribute to meaningful work at every scale, and be part of a team committed to making lasting, positive change for people and the places they call home.

Day to Day

• Employing transportation demand management (TDM), business, and organizational development principles to direct and implement successful projects, programs, and initiatives in support of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) regional TDM program.
• Shaping and implementing programs focused on shifting travel behaviors of a diverse group of commuters and communities, with particular focus on construction-related impacts and non-drive alone commutes. This may include supporting employers and their workforce in warehousing, logistics, hospitality, retail, technology, and more.
• Effectively leading regional coordination meetings through presentations, meeting notes and summaries, and consistent follow up; developing action items and updating work plans.
• Directing and participating in employer-facing outreach with the support and collaboration of stakeholders and other team members.
• Leading, planning, and assisting outreach efforts such as presentations to large groups, transportation fairs, kiosks/expos, tabling, lunch and learns, and other in-person engagement tactics.
• Supporting data collection tasks required to inform program measurement and evaluation, with a strong data-led approach to decision-making.
• Managing partners, stakeholders, and/or sub-consultants through use of high level project management methods and responsible leadership of program tasks and deliverables.
• Supporting public involvement and engagement strategies to effectively reach broad audiences. This may include navigating crucial conversations regarding under-resourced communities, vulnerable populations, and underrepresented demographics.
• Establishing and nurturing long-term relationships with clients, including understanding needs, expectations, and challenges and ensuring clients feel valued, understood, and supported.
• Overseeing implementation of the CAMPO SchoolPool program, including coordination with schools and partners, management of program data and processes, development of outreach materials, and tracking of timelines and milestones to support successful program launch and delivery.
• Building and maintaining relationships with transportation and community leaders across the Austin metro region (and possibly across north and central Texas), including opportunities to collaborate on impactful transportation projects.
• Helping advance Alta’s mission in Texas through identifying and leading business development opportunities
• Actively engaging in continuous learning and integrating this knowledge into projects, including an understanding of emerging tools and techniques in the marketing field as they apply to our work. This involves attending trainings, workshops, and regional conferences as well as self-guided learning.
