Job description

Purchasing Business Developer

Kelly Services is seeking an experienced Purchasing Business Developer to support a major global manufacturer's Remanufacturing & Circularity organization.

This is a unique opportunity for a strategic purchasing, procurement, supplier development, or business development professional who enjoys finding suppliers, developing supplier relationships, and creating new opportunities around remanufactured and repaired components.

You will serve as a key connection between Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Service Market teams, and suppliers. A major focus of the role will be identifying, meeting with, and developing suppliers that can support remanufacturing and repair initiatives.

What You'll Do

  • Identify and develop relationships with potential remanufacturing, repair, and circularity suppliers
  • Meet with suppliers to understand their capabilities, technologies, capacity, and potential fit
  • Identify new supplier and business opportunities through market research and outside-in intelligence
  • Lead early-stage supplier engagement and collaboration
  • Support RFQs and ensure remanufacturing and repair requirements are incorporated into supplier sourcing activities
  • Work with Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Business Area teams to align supplier strategies
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities, opportunities, risks, and potential solutions
  • Develop recommendations and business cases for leadership
  • Support supplier negotiations, sourcing strategies, and supplier awards
  • Build and maintain strong strategic supplier relationships
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, cost improvement, efficiency, and long-term competitiveness
  • Coordinate meetings, governance activities, reporting, and presentations for business stakeholders
  • Help establish consistent processes and ways of working for Reman & Circularity Purchasing
  • Drive projects from early concept through supplier selection and implementation
  • Communicate progress, risks, opportunities, and recommendations to senior leadership

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of related professional experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience in purchasing, procurement, strategic sourcing, supplier development, business development, or supply chain
  • Strong experience working directly with suppliers and conducting supplier meetings
  • Ability to identify and develop new supplier relationships and business opportunities
  • Experience in automotive, commercial vehicles, heavy equipment, manufacturing, industrial, or related industries preferred
  • Understanding of remanufacturing, repair, aftermarket, parts, or circular economy concepts is highly valued
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Purchasing, and Operations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Comfortable preparing presentations, recommendations, and decision material for leadership
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating multiple stakeholders and projects
  • Strong Microsoft Office/Excel and presentation skills
  • Willingness to meet with suppliers and travel as needed

Why This Opportunity? This isn't a traditional purchasing role focused on purchase orders and transactional buying. You'll have the opportunity to help build the supplier network and business strategy for remanufactured and repaired products. You'll be out in the market identifying capabilities, meeting suppliers, developing partnerships, and helping determine how those suppliers can support future business opportunities.
