Job Overview
The Education Department at PBS SoCal seeks an intern to join our Early Learning Team. This role will support the organization’s programming and initiatives for families and children ages 2-5, with a specific focus on facilitating curriculum projects and initiatives, including but not limited to researching and reviewing learning standards and trajectories in early math and supporting development of digital and non-digital learning experiences. This internship will primarily be remote, though travel to our Burbank and/or Costa Mesa offices, as well as community partner sites in Los Angeles and Orange County should be expected.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Become familiar with PBS SoCal’s programming and initiatives for families and children
- Review internal curricula and guiding frameworks
- Engage families and children with program activities and digital media
- Support the Early Learning team during workshops and outreach events
- Prepare workshop materials and distribute materials to community partners and families
- Attend team meetings when possible and schedule allows
- Establish a safe and engaging environment during workshops and outreach events
- Other duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children and/or families
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-directed and able to take initiative
- Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
- Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends, on occasion
- Knowledge of early childhood development not necessary but preferred
Requirements:
- At least 18 years of age
- Available for a minimum of 20, but no more than 40 hours per week
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Access to reliable transportation for travel to in-person meetings and events
- Successful completion of DMV Pull Notice and Live Scan
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is also required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
The working conditions are primarily a telecommuting setting. However, the position will require off-site travel to donors and/or other such locations as necessary.
