Job Title: Process EngineerJob DescriptionThe Process Engineer manages chemical and related processes, including the associated chemistry and biological aspects, to meet customer requirements in a complex industrial environment. This role focuses on water treatment and chemical management, process optimization, and continuous improvement, while collaborating closely with site personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
Responsibilities
- Interact with site personnel to design, implement, and maintain an effective water treatment program.
- Work with staff to reduce process-specific chemical usage while maintaining performance and quality standards.
- Oversee inventory management of water treatment chemicals to ensure adequate supply and proper storage.
- Lead quarterly water savings meetings to review performance, identify opportunities, and drive conservation initiatives.
- Participate in energy savings meetings to support efficiency and sustainability goals.
- Develop chemical procedures and operational parameters in collaboration with the on-site team.
- Manage all chemical systems within documented customer operational parameters and specifications.
- Perform biological testing on boilers, cooling towers, and other systems to ensure proper control and compliance.
- Troubleshoot chemical-related issues and implement corrective actions to resolve process problems.
- Communicate regularly with the Site Manager regarding site requirements, performance, and improvement opportunities.
- Create purchase orders in MAS based on customer requests or requirements and coordinate with appropriate suppliers.
- Collaborate with a tier 2 water treatment provider to support and optimize water treatment programs.
- Identify and communicate performance issues related to tiered suppliers and support corrective actions.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements in paint and related chemical processes.
- Work with appropriate site personnel to maintain chemical-related equipment and process system needs.
- Participate on problem-solving and quality teams to address process issues and improve overall performance.
- Train and support assigned personnel in chemical management, process procedures, and best practices.
- Delegate work appropriately within the team to ensure efficient completion of tasks and projects.
Essential Skills- Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Basic chemistry experience, including pH and temperature testing.
- Strong computer skills, including the ability to create spreadsheets, documents, graphs, reports, and presentations.
- Experience with inventory control and chemical management in an industrial or process environment.
- Excellent knowledge of related process chemistry and associated sciences.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of management, customers, contractors, suppliers, and internal personnel.
- Strong problem identification and resolution skills with a cooperative approach to internal customers.
- Proven ability to manage and prioritize a large volume of work effectively.
- Strong analytical skills combined with good interpersonal and communication skills.
- High attention to detail with a focused, thorough, and accurate work style.
- Ability to handle chemicals and make chemical additions in excess of 30 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods in large industrial environments.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods while working at a computer.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, and internet use.
- 3–5 years of related experience preferred in process engineering, chemical management, or a similar field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or Refinery Engineering preferred.
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to accept challenges, identify needs, and work proactively on new projects.
- Ability to successfully train and develop the skills of assigned personnel.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervision skills, including effective delegation.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Experience collaborating with external water treatment providers is beneficial.
- Occasional travel may be required to support site or customer needs.
Work EnvironmentThis role is based onsite at a large technical and industrial facility, working within extensive process and water treatment systems. The position involves a mix of office and plant-floor activities, including prolonged periods of sitting at a computer and extended periods of standing and walking within very large industrial environments. The Process Engineer regularly uses computers and related peripherals to create spreadsheets, documents, graphs, reports, and presentations, and works hands-on with chemical systems, including handling and adding chemicals in quantities exceeding 30 lbs. The environment emphasizes collaboration with site personnel, contractors, and suppliers, with a strong focus on safety, quality, continuous improvement, and resource conservation, particularly in water and energy usage.

This is a Contract position based out of Warren, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr.
