Job description

Ground Truth Field Organizer

This role is focused on Ground Truth, Swing Left's people-powered organizing program designed to help Democrats win back power by reimagining how we talk with voters. As part of Ground Truth, we are running a randomized controlled trial (RCT) in Texas testing two voter contact scripts to build a stronger evidence base for how we persuade voters to support Democrats.

This role is based on the ground in Texas and blends field organizing with RCT implementation and management. The person in this role will travel to key areas across Texas to train and support volunteers, run canvasses and debriefs, and coach volunteers directly, alongside owning the day-to-day work that keeps the RCT running cleanly and maintaining fidelity to the experimental protocol and monitoring data integrity.

Responsibilities include:

  • Volunteer training and support
  • Canvassing, debriefs, and data review
  • Project management and experimental implementation

Key competencies and qualifications include:

  • A strong commitment to Swing Left's mission and values
  • Based in, or willing to relocate to, Texas, with willingness and ability to travel to canvass/training locations across the state
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate with colleagues effectively in a hybrid work environment
  • A commitment to equity and belonging across all identities, and ability to learn and grow in this space
  • Strong relationship management and prioritization skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail this role is directly responsible for protecting the integrity of the RCT's treatment/control separation
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of voter contact (including door knocking, high traffic canvassing, and phone banking) and electoral organizing strategies (including recruiting volunteers, team building, and managing volunteer leaders)
  • Comfort training and coaching volunteers or field enumerators in person, one-on-one and in groups
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple moving logistical pieces and partner relationships at once
  • High level of comfort with tools and technology used to support organizing (including Slack, email, digital platforms, and phone banking platforms), and enough tech comfort to troubleshoot basic volunteer issues
  • Proficiency working with data, including reviewing and checking qualitative and quantitative data for quality and consistency
  • Proficiency analyzing data in R or Stata and ability to build and maintain internal tracking systems to keep tabs on reporting across teams
  • Identify and escalate threats to study design and randomization, including violations of treatment scripts, off-protocol voter contact, and other things that threaten evaluation integrity

Logistics:

This is a cycle-based position that will end on November 13, 2026.

This position is designed as full-time; however, a part-time schedule may be considered based on candidate availability.

This role is based on the ground in Texas and requires regular travel to canvass and training locations across target hub cities (currently under consideration: Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas/Fort Worth). Regular evening and weekend work is required to support volunteer engagement, canvasses, and debriefs.

Hiring Process:

  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis
  • The priority deadline to apply is August 28, but applications will be accepted until the posting is closed
  • This position starts on Friday, September 11
  • We will communicate about our expected timeline as the process progresses, and all candidates will receive communication from our team regarding their application status

Compensation:

  • The full-time salary for this position is $5,916.66/month.

Benefits for Full-Time Employees Include:

  • Employer-paid life insurance and short- and long-term disability insurance
  • Retirement plan
  • Professional development and remote work stipends

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand at a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to travel regularly, primarily driving, to locations across Texas
  • Ability to participate in program activities such as canvassing and phone banking, which may involve standing and walking outdoors for extended periods
