TURN Community Services was founded in 1973 by a group of parents who wanted better services for their adult children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We provide resources to more than 850 individuals with developmental disabilities. With locations from Brigham City to St. George, we offer a full range of services including day programs, residential living, art center programs, summer camp, and supported employment opportunities.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A Day PROGRAM ASSISTANT

As a Day Program Assistant specializing in various types of art, you participate in managing and operating programs for people with Developmental/intellectual disabilities. When person-centered service plans and behavior support plans are developed, you help with the implementation of those plans. Working with the team, you schedule and implement community activities. You're always an example to those we serve, modeling good interactions, language, attire, and hygiene.

This center specializes in teaching all forms of art; writing, drawing, singing, dancing, painting, playing various instruments and more, as well as spending a lot of time experiencing adventures outside of their building.

The position will assist individuals in the program with varying levels of personal hygiene care needs, frequent assistance with moving or transfers which includes lifting up to 50 pounds, social skills, communication, safety, recreation and leisure and various other skills to learn independence in their lives.

When the program coordinator is unavailable, you step up and manage all program operations and supervise our direct support professionals. We are looking for someone who is highly organized, maintains program records, develops curriculum, and provides direct service to our clients. You wear many hats and help out in several different areas. With dedication, you ensure that all services are delivered as promised. At the end of each day, you feel great about adding value to the lives of individuals with disabilities - you love doing nonprofit work!


QUALIFICATIONS FOR A DAY PROGRAM ASSISTANT

  • 6+ months of experience working with individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities
  • Reliable transportation and a clean driving record
  • Valid driver's license, current motor vehicle insurance, and clean driving record.
  • Driving large program buses and vans as well as being willing to train new employees to drive large vehicles.
  • An art background and experience with arts in various disciplines.

WORK SCHEDULE

The typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:30 pm., including two staff meetings a month that will go into the early evening.

In addition, flexibility to work outside of the typical schedule will be needed for program and agency events. At times this may include working later into the evening and on the weekend.
