Job description
Overview
The Mill Turning Machinist operates a variety of machine tools in a production environment, following prescribed machine shop methods and procedures. Responsibilities include producing parts as specified in blueprints and production planners while working under limited supervision.
Essential Duties (Other duties may be assigned)
  • Set up and operate mill-turn and lathe machine tools in a production environment to produce parts according to specifications and blueprints.
  • Maintain, lubricate, and degrease production machines and equipment.
  • Load parts for machining and perform periodic quality checks to ensure conformance with specifications and planning documents.
  • Select, start set-ups, and adjust tooling according to specifications and programmer instructions.
  • Inspect own parts for quality to ensure they meet required specifications.
Education and/or Experience Required
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
  • 3 to 6 years of on-the-job machine shop experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow verbal instructions in English.
  • Experience operating turning machines with live tools simultaneously.
  • Ability to run machines with dual spindles.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Work in a factory environment with exposure to dirt, heat, grit, sparks, noise, fumes, and dust.
  • Requires close hand-eye coordination and high manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, crouch, push, pull, use foot controls, perform repetitive hand motions, grasp, and use fine dexterity.
  • Occasionally lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
