The Fullerton College Drone Technology Program, home of the nationally recognized Fullerton Drone Lab, is among the most comprehensive and innovative college drone and autonomous systems programs in the United States. As the first California community college to offer a Bachelor of Science in Drone & Autonomous Systems and the creator of the nation’s first U.S. Department of Labor–approved Drone Pilot Registered Apprenticeship, the program leads regionally and nationally in workforce development.

    Job Description : JOB DESCRIPTION

    Teach a variety of courses on Drone Technology, Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS), Autonomous Systems, and related topics to a diverse student body. Courses may include introductory and advanced drone piloting, autonomous flight operations, LiDAR and photogrammetry, maritime ROV operations, FPV piloting, Part 107 exam prep, drone safety and maintenance, aerial imaging and cinematography, autonomous systems management, upper-level bachelor’s degree courses, and others.

    Teaching lecture and hands-on laboratory courses using industry-standard equipment.

    Engaging and supporting students from a wide range of cultural, socioeconomic, academic, and professional backgrounds.

    Updating curriculum to reflect current industry practices, technologies, and federal / state regulations.

    Participating in program development, equipment acquisition, industry partnerships, and advisory committees.

    Supporting program initiatives such as apprenticeships, internships, K–12 outreach, industry collaborations, and community events.

    Participating in departmental and college governance, accreditation, and shared decision-making.

    Maintaining professional competence through training, certifications, and ongoing industry engagement.

    Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities.

    Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.

    Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.

    Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.

    Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.

    Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.

    Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

    Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and / or are students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in this area with African American, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students.

    Work cooperatively with staff and students.

    Evening and / or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

    Minimum Qualifications :

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    A Master’s degree in a related field

    OR

    A Master’s degree in any field with two years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment

    A Bachelor’s degree in any field with six years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment

    A Remote Pilot (Part 107) Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration.

    Experience with the safe and effective operation of uncrewed and autonomous systems in real-world, commercial, public safety, research, or industrial settings.

    Knowledge of FAA regulations, autonomous systems standards, and emerging technologies in UAS, LiDAR, ROVs, FPV, AAM / eVTOL, or related fields.

    Ability to collaborate with industry partners and incorporate real-world projects, scenarios, and experiential learning into the classroom.
