The Staff Engineer, embedded within the Billing Development & Operations team, will be a key contributor to the continuous development and revenue operations of our Billing platforms, supporting the BoostMobile and GenMobile brands. This role demands a self-starter with a natural curiosity for new technologies, particularly in the realm of Artificial Intelligence, to drive future productivity gains. Working in close partnership with the Engineering Manager and Product Owner, the engineer will rapidly prototype capabilities focused on automating processes and enhancing the overall productivity of the domain.

What Success Looks Like (Objectives):

• Lead the continuous development, maintenance, and optimization of high-volume billing platforms to maintain precision in revenue operations and high system availability
• Architect and integrate artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, such as LLMs, predictive modeling, or autonomous agents, to automate complex billing workflows and drive domain productivity
• Partner directly with Product Owners and Engineering Managers to rapidly prototype conceptual designs and translate business KPIs into automated, scalable technical solutions
• Eliminate operational friction and lifecycle bottlenecks by designing automated tools, frameworks, and multi-stage deployment pipelines for microservices and distributed systems
• Establish code quality standards, perform architectural reviews, and introduce modern engineering practices to build observable, maintainable, and secure platforms adhering to PCI compliance

Core Skills, Competencies, and Key Experiences (What you’ll bring)

• Expertise in engineering high-volume billing platforms, financial systems, or transactional revenue operations
• Proficiency in rapid prototyping and full-lifecycle development using modern languages and frameworks such as Python, SQL, or Java; combined with strong problem-solving skills
• Deep expertise in cloud-native environments (AWS/Azure/GCP), microservices architecture, API design, and distributed systems scalability
• Advanced proficiency in database management, including SQL/NoSQL systems, transactional integrity, and security best practices such as PCI compliance
• Mastery of delivery engineering principles to build and manage robust, multi-stage deployment pipelines
• Applied expertise or advanced literacy in leveraging AI capabilities to automate business logic and streamline software engineering workflows
• Self-starter leadership and strategic decision-making skills to proactively resolve operational friction and elevate engineering standards

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• Minimum Experience: 8+ years of software engineering experience
• Required Technical Skills: Must have at least 8 years of experience with: High-volume billing systems, financial platforms, or revenue operations Cloud-native environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and microservices architecture Transactional databases (SQL/NoSQL) and security/PCI compliance standards
