Morton is seeking a Vice President of Technology for our client based in the DMV area, This is a senior executive responsible for leading the company’s technology transformation across product engineering, data platforms, and AI-enabled workflows. This role drives the modernization of systems and processes to improve quality, speed, consistency, and scalability across both client-facing products and internal operations.

As the leader of the end-to-end product and engineering function, the VP of Technology owns technology strategy, architecture, development, and delivery. Partnering closely with the Founder & Managing Partner and the leadership team, this role replaces legacy and off-the-shelf tools with modern, scalable platforms and production-ready AI capabilities that deliver measurable business impact.

They are a proactive communicator who aligns stakeholders, removes obstacles, and drives results through disciplined planning, effective team leadership, and operational rigor.
Key Responsibilities Technology Strategy & Executive Leadership

• 
  Define and own the company’s technology strategy and multi-year roadmap aligned to business goals and client needs.

  Serve as the final decision maker on technology architecture, platforms, standards, and vendor selection, in partnership with executive leadership.
  
• 
  Lead the identification, prioritization, and retirement of legacy systems and technical debt to reduce risk and operational friction.
  
• 
  Act as a trusted advisor to the Founder & Managing Partner, clearly articulating options, tradeoffs, and recommendations.
  
• 
  Establish clear priorities, ownership, and measurable outcomes across technology initiatives.
  
• 
  Implement operating rhythms that promote urgency, accountability, and predictable execution.
  

AI & Business Process Transformation

• 
  Lead organizational change management to ensure adoption of new systems and workflows while maintaining operational stability.
  
• 
  Drive the practical integration of AI into business processes, focusing on measurable improvements in quality, speed, consistency, and cost efficiency.
  
• 
  Build a repeatable framework for identifying, piloting, prioritizing, and scaling AI use cases across the organization.
  
• 
  Ensure responsible AI practices, including governance, security, privacy, auditability, and appropriate human-in-the-loop controls.
  
• 
  Partner with functional leaders to redesign workflows and data practices so AI solutions succeed in production environments.
  

Software Product Engineering & Delivery

• 
  Oversee the design, development, and delivery of high-quality enterprise software products for clients and internal users.
  
• 
  Establish and enforce engineering standards across architecture, code quality, testing, release management, and observability.
  
• 
  Drive predictable delivery through strong product and project management, clear requirements, and disciplined execution.
  
• 
  Maintain fast feedback loops with clients and internal stakeholders to continuously improve product value and usability.
  

Data Platforms, Integrations & Security

• 
  Own the strategy for data architecture, integrations, and analytics platforms supporting internal reporting and client-facing capabilities.

  Ensure reliable data pipelines, APIs, and system integrations that support scale, auditability, and high-quality AI outputs.
  
• 
  Establish product-focused security practices across the SDLC, including privacy-by-design, secure coding standards, and vulnerability management.
  

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  Lead, mentor, and grow high-performing teams across engineering, architecture, DevOps, and product and project management.
  
• 
  Set clear performance expectations, role clarity, and professional development plans for leaders and team members.

  Foster a culture of ownership, craftsmanship, speed, and transparency.

  Recruit, onboard, and retain top technical talent.
  

Partner & Vendor Management

• 
  Oversee and hold external development partners accountable for quality, velocity, security, and adherence to standards.

  Own technology budgets, resource allocation, and capacity planning across internal teams and external partners.
  

Stakeholder Communication & Transparency

• 
  Communicate clearly and consistently with executives and stakeholders on priorities, risks, dependencies, timelines, and outcomes.

  Provide concise, decision-oriented status reporting.

  Translate complex technical topics into clear business language to drive alignment across the organization.
  

Qualifications

• 
  10+ years of progressive technology experience, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles delivering complex systems at scale.
  
• 
  Proven success building and leading software engineering and product organizations with strong delivery, scalability, and security outcomes.
  
• 
  Strong understanding of modern AI capabilities and limitations, with experience integrating AI into real-world business workflows and software products.
  
• 
  Hands-on knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure, along with modern DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools.
  
• 
  Experience modernizing legacy systems and replacing off-the-shelf tools with integrated, scalable platforms.
  
• 
  Demonstrated ability to execute with urgency, strong executive judgment, and consistent follow-through.
  
• 
  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with comfort presenting to executive and cross-functional audiences.
  
• 
  Experience managing technology budgets, vendors, and external development partners, including offshore teams.
  
• 
  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
