What We’re Searching for:
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, integrity, security, and availability of Hood Container’s enterprise databases. This role supports mission-critical systems—including ERP platforms (e.g., Amtech EnCore, Kiwi MES, Microsoft Dynamics 365 - Microsoft SQL – Azure, ABB MES - Oracle database), manufacturing systems, inventory management, and customer-facing applications—ensuring reliable data operations across multiple plant and warehouse locations. The DBA’s short to medium term goals will be improving scalability for existing software interfaces, optimization of backup strategy, and optimization of the servers at an O/S and database level.
The DBA will work closely with IT, operations, and business teams to optimize database performance, support integrations (e.g., EDI, APIs), and drive data reliability across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Operations & Support
- Support Windows and/or Linux server environments
- Assist with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, or equivalent)
- Perform routine system checks, maintenance, and health monitoring
- Support Active Directory / Azure AD user, group, and access management
- Support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
- Assist with core services such as DNS, DHCP, authentication, and file services
- Support Remote Desktop Services (RDS) environments, including session hosts and user access
Hybrid, Cloud & End-User Platforms
- Support day-to-day operations of hybrid on-prem and cloud systems
- Assist with Microsoft 365 tenant administration and licensing
- Support cloud resource management under the senior engineer's direction
- Monitor system performance and escalate issues as appropriate
- Participate in infrastructure upgrades and modernization projects
Security & Reliability
- Perform patching and routine vulnerability remediation tasks
- Follow security standards, access controls, and change procedures
- Assist with backup verification and disaster recovery testing
- Support secure configuration of Microsoft 365 and RDS environments
- Document incidents and operational procedures
Automation & Tooling
- Run and maintain existing automation scripts and tools
- Develop foundational scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash)
- Assist with documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures
Team & Development Responsibilities
- Responding to assigned incidents and service requests
- Escalating complex issues to senior engineers
- Participate in on-call rotation in a limited, supported capacity
- Actively developing technical skills through mentorship and training
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in IT systems, infrastructure, or related roles
- Exposure to Windows Server and/or Linux environments
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 administration concepts
- Basic understanding of Remote Desktop Services (RDS)
- Basic understanding of virtualization concepts
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
- Willingness to learn scripting and automation tools
- Strong documentation and communication skills
