The person in this position plans, directs and collaborates with other Commercial team members in all aspects of the organization's industrial development initiatives to ensure that the company achieves its industrial development goals. Responsibilities include attracting, developing and facilitating new growth opportunities of new rail-oriented industries along the various Genesee & Wyoming rail lines and analyzing those opportunities. The role also involves promoting G&W served sites for new build and expansion projects via proactive, targeted meetings and solicitation. The individual will respond to site search inquiries, demonstrate expertise in the industrial development field, provide strategic direction and mentor other Industrial Development professionals, and establish and nurture relationships with EDCs and state agencies, landowners, brokers, developers. The Industrial Development Manager will keep the Department head informed of industrial development results, actions, and analyses, assist staff engineer with gathering information to develop track layout designs, maintain and update a database of adjacent properties, and promote G&W sites/activity via media, website, LinkedIn. The position also involves new customer onboarding for both ID projects and expansions in support of local Marketing & Sales teams, collaborating with and bringing in proper departments at proper times to the project, encouraging regional Salesperson contact and participation early in the project, developing proposals for new business opportunities, initiating proposals, closing deals, performing reporting and analysis tasks, promoting and supporting the commercial agenda of the company, collaborating with all key stakeholders in the company, assisting with training new Industrial Development staff, managing other projects, and performing other duties as assigned.
Required skills and/or experience include the ability to drive results in a professional way, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, exceptional critical-thinking and analytical skills, strong skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel and Word), strong organization, project-management, and personnel-management skills, ability to interact effectively with all functions inside the company and with all levels of the customer base, proven record of increasing revenues through industrial development or sales efforts and strategy, and willingness to travel up to 70 percent at certain times, normal travel is 50%. Required education and/or credentials include a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of experience and education. At least five years of railroad or economic development or related industry marketing and/or sales experience preferred. At least 5 years of business development in a team environment.
