Job description

Human Resources Generalist

We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support the day-to-day operations of the HR department while continuing to build and broaden their HR expertise. In this role, you will provide foundational support across employee relations, talent acquisition, onboarding, HR administration, HRIS maintenance, compliance, and employee experience. Acting as an approachable resource for employees and managers, you will help ensure HR programs and policies are administered consistently, effectively, and in alignment with company values.

Working with the HR team, you will play an active role in talent development by helping coordinate university recruiting, attending career fairs, and supporting the day-to-day administration of our internship program. Additionally, you will support vital HR operations, including time and labor tracking, call-off administration, employee recognition initiatives, HRIS data accuracy, and backup payroll processing, helping maintain departmental continuity and deliver excellent service to the team.

Opportunity for long-term career growth and increasing responsibility as the HR department and organization expand.

Direct exposure to key HR functions, employee relations initiatives, talent acquisition strategies, and people operations.

A supportive, team-oriented culture where HR colleagues work together, share coverage, and celebrate team successes.

A positive work environment built on respect, accountability, continuous learning, and open communication.

Encouragement to bring forward fresh ideas, streamline HR processes, and leverage modern HRIS tech and automation.

Meaningful opportunity to make a direct impact on the employee experience and organizational culture while advancing your HR career.

Support full-cycle recruiting: post positions, screen applicants, schedule interviews, coordinate background checks, and assist with offer and pre-employment administration and coordination.

Partner with hiring managers to maintain accurate, up-to-date job descriptions and hiring criteria.

Represent the organization at career fairs, university events, and community outreach functions to build talent pipelines.

Lead and administer the internship program, including recruitment, onboarding, manager support, engagement activities, and program evaluation.

Facilitate onboarding and new employee orientation, serving as an HR resource during introductory employment periods.

Serve as an HR resource for new hires during onboarding and introductory employment periods to promote a positive employee experience.

Support employee records and HRIS maintenance by partnering collaboratively with HRIS and Payroll on data integrity, routine system updates, reporting, and keeping organizational charts accurate and up to date.

Support time and labor administration by assisting with reviewing attendance records, monitoring timekeeping data, tracking call-offs/absences, and helping respond to basic employee and manager inquiries.

Assist with timekeeping accuracy by helping enter, review, and validate timekeeping data to support the team in ensuring overall payroll accuracy. Serve as a backup payroll processor and participate in shared payroll processing responsibilities with other HR team members to ensure continuity of operations.

Coordinate employee status changes, transfers, compliance reporting, personnel file administration, and employee service anniversary recognition programs.

Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, assisting with employee handbook updates and policy communications.

Participate in cross-functional HR projects related to compensation, benefits, performance management, and organizational development.

Assist in collecting and compiling basic workforce data (such as turnover, staffing levels, recruiting activity, and attendance) to support reporting and analysis by HR leadership.

Recommend and support continuous process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and the employee experience.

Serve as an HR point of contact for employees and managers, providing clear guidance on HR policies, procedures, and routine workplace concerns.

Partner with HR leadership to guide and assist managers through performance management, employee coaching, document preparation, and corrective action processes.

Participate in and support employee relations investigations, learning to independently conduct objective inquiries, document findings, and recommend fair resolutions under the guidance of the HR Director.

Help track and evaluate employee relations trends and feedback across departments, collaborating with HR leadership to propose ideas for improving retention, engagement, and workplace culture.

Provide timely support for employee and manager HR inquiries.

Collaborate with HR team members to ensure consistent service delivery and departmental coverage.

Cross-train in key HR functions to support business continuity during absences, peak periods, and special projects.

Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and organizational information.

Contribute to a collaborative, service-oriented Human Resources team environment.

Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives and other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field

Minimum of three (3) years of progressive Human Resources experience in a Generalist or comparable HR role

Experience supporting core HR functions including onboarding, recruitment, timekeeping, attendance tracking, and HR administration

Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices

Experience working with HRIS platforms and maintaining employee data

Willingness and capability to complete cross-training and serve as a backup payroll processor

Strong judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high attention to detail

Prior experience supporting university recruiting, career fairs, or managing internship programs
