Job description

Mortgage Specialist

The Mortgage Specialist will be responsible for closing residential loans in a timely, accurate manner and in accordance with bank policy, regulatory compliance, and investor guidelines, that are saleable to the secondary market, as well as insurable by FHA and VA. This individual will be trained to be a subject matter expert and fully experienced and capable of performing with minimal supervision while providing efficient and courteous customer service.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required. College Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience with mortgage loans required.
  • Mortgage or loan processing/closing by a financial institution, mortgage company or related business preferred.

Certificate, Licenses and Registration Requirements:

  • Successful candidate must meet and comply with all requirements set forth in the SAFE Act, including, but not limited to successful completion of the required background checks, and obtaining a unique identifier by the NMLS.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

  • Software knowledge including Point of sale loan origination system, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to include professional grammar and demeanor.
  • Good math aptitude.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle required.

Essential Functions:

  • Gather all required documentation to prepare the mortgage for closing.
  • Review all information for accuracy and completeness and make corrections as needed in the loan origination system.
  • Monitor loan for compliance and notify processing when re-disclose is required.
  • Review all HMDA data, flood certification, and fees collected.
  • Review title report and legal description. Verify accuracy of names and property address.
  • Review all closing documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review Closing Disclosure for accuracy and tolerance violations.
  • Verify, by third party, the borrower's employment if needed.
  • Be the liaison between the customer, processor, Realtor (if applicable) and closing company to coordinate the closing of the loan.
  • Communicate in a professional and friendly manner to all parties involved in the mortgage transaction.
  • Contact borrower to obtain any information needed including conditions required by underwriting.
  • Review loan programs, underwriting guidelines and bank policies with borrower.

Compliance with regulatory laws and company procedures is a required component of all position descriptions.
