Director of Sales and Marketing, Full Time

Opportunity awaits on the beautiful Island of Hawaii... King Kamehameha Kona Beach Resort Courtyard by Marriott currently has an opening for a talented Full Time Director of Sales & Marketing to share the aloha spirit and strive to create a memorable guest experience.

The Director of Sales & Marketing is an integral leader overseeing strategy and execution for all sales and marketing initiatives, driving revenue growth, increasing market share, and optimizing profitability across all market segments, including tour and travel, group, and catering revenue.

Essential functions and responsibilities of the job include but are not limited to:

• Providing services that are above and beyond for guest satisfaction and retention.
• Utilizing interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence and encourage others; advocates sound financial/business decision making; demonstrates honesty/integrity; leads by example.
• Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect and cooperation among team members.
• Implement sales strategy to achieve revenue goals and maximize profits for the hotel while maintaining guest satisfaction.
• Direct the day to day activities of the Sales Team, assist with the planning, organizing for each revenue segment including food and beverage; assign work for each manager, develop and communicate strategies and goals.
• Create, train and motivate those responsible for all segments including food and beverage.
• Ensure group and catering operational procedures are in place and being followed by all team members within the hotel.
• Achieving or exceeding individual and team sales group goals and hotel budget.
• Analyze current/potential market and sales trends and coordinate all activities to maintain and increase revenue and market share through added business volume and rate.
• Seeking new customers through strategic outbound sales efforts for all segments. Solicitation of new and existing business to meet/exceed revenue goals. Including cold calls, direct sales calls, sales blitzes, and hotel tours.
• Monitoring sales team activities/performance to ensure revenue goals meet or exceed established plan and accurately reporting to management.
• Collaborate with corporate Revenue Management resources to help make informed decisions and maximize revenue.
• Developing and maintaining positive relationships with peers and competitors.
• Providing support and coaching for team members to drive high levels of performance, job satisfaction and ensure they reach their booking goals and revenue budget.
• Training and empowering sales team members to exercise good judgement and make profitable business decisions.
• Train department team members on all Marriott required brand standards training. Ensures their own training is completed.
• Develop/maintain knowledge of market trends, competition to ensure group and catering offerings are in-line with the market.
• Displaying leadership in guest hospitality, exemplifying customer service and create a positive example for guest relations.
• Executing and supporting the operational aspects of business booked (e.g., generating proposals, writing contracts, customer correspondents, etc.)
• Completing ongoing sales objectives and action plans as directed by Corporate Director of Sales.
• Completing all weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting on accounts, individual, segment and tier production.
• Partner with Revenue Managers and General Managers with weekly calls to review and update 30/60/90 day group & catering forecasting in order to meet and/or exceed our budgeted goals.
• Interview hourly and salaried candidates and making recommendations on new hires, pay rates and terminations.
• Provide assistance to other team members and departments to contribute to the best overall performance of the department, restaurant and hotel.
• Perform other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management.

Overseen Markets: Group Business Transient Banquet Catering

Booking Objective: Specific goals to be established after 90 days.

Knowledge/Education/Experience: Proficient in Microsoft applications. Minimum five (5) years of sales and marketing leadership in hotels/resorts required. Market knowledge of Island of Hawaii and State of Hawaii preferred. Experience in a union environment preferred. College graduate desirable.

Skills/Abilities/Other Requirements: English speaking or bilingual. Ability to make timely, effective decisions. Ability to prioritize, organize and delegate work assignments. Ability to maintain good team member relations. Ability to develop and maintain effective guest relations. Ability to direct performance of team members and follow-up with corrective action where needed. Ability to provide legible written communications. Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations. Dependable. Ability to travel as required for meetings, trainings & conferences.
