Job description

Associate Attorney – Insurance Coverage & Commercial Litigation

Trueline | Parsippany, NJ | Full-time
$120,000–$185,000 base salary + discretionary bonus
Hybrid flexibility following three months of onsite training

Trueline is seeking an Associate Attorney to join a boutique litigation practice handling insurance coverage and complex commercial disputes. This opportunity offers substantive legal work, direct collaboration with partners, and increasing responsibility within a small firm.

Junior attorneys and recently completed judicial law clerks are encouraged to apply. Prior insurance experience is not required for entry-level candidates with strong research and writing skills. Mid-level and experienced candidates should bring direct insurance coverage or insurance defense experience.

What You'll Do

  • Analyze insurance policies, contractual obligations, and coverage issues.
  • Research and draft coverage opinions, briefs, motions, pleadings, and legal memoranda.
  • Handle assignments involving commercial disputes, coverage litigation, and declaratory judgment actions.
  • Work on claims-handling disputes, professional liability, and errors and omissions matters.
  • Participate in discovery, depositions, court appearances, and case strategy as experience permits.
  • Collaborate closely with partners and take increasing ownership of matters.

Insurance coverage is a central part of the practice. Candidates should be interested in developing their careers in this area alongside commercial litigation.

What You'll Bring

  • A JD from an accredited law school.
  • Active New Jersey bar admission.
  • New York admission is strongly preferred.
  • Strong legal research, persuasive writing, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Approximately 0–8 years of attorney experience, including recent graduates and attorneys completing judicial clerkships who can meet the hiring timeline.
  • For mid-level and experienced candidates, direct insurance coverage or insurance defense experience.
  • Initiative, attention to detail, sound judgment, and receptiveness to feedback.
  • Availability to attend in-person interviews and work regularly in Parsippany.

Schedule & Hybrid Flexibility

The first three months require five days onsite each week for training, onboarding, and collaboration.

After that period, the firm will consider one to two remote days per week, subject to demonstrated productivity and an agreed schedule. Candidates should be able to maintain a sustainable commute for ongoing office attendance. This is not a fully remote position.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $120,000–$185,000 base salary, depending on relevant experience and qualifications.
  • Discretionary bonus based on firm performance, individual merit, and production.
  • Employer pays 80% of health, dental, and vision insurance premiums.
  • 401(k) match up to 4% of salary, with a 5% employee contribution required for the full match.
  • Direct mentorship and opportunities to develop substantive litigation skills.
  • Minimum annual billable-hour expectation of 1,900 hours. Production of 2,000 hours is a factor in consideration for the highest discretionary bonuses; bonuses may also be paid below that level.

How to Apply

Apply with your resume. Candidates advancing in the process will be asked to provide:

  • A law school transcript.
  • A pleading or brief they personally drafted and are permitted to share, identifying their contribution and any substantive editing.
  • Professional references who can speak to their work.

Interviews are conducted in person, with early-morning and evening appointments available to accommodate working candidates.
