Build the future of STEM.Kids in Tech is seeking passionate, community-minded individuals to serve as SPARK AmeriCorps Members supporting elementary and middle school students across Greater Boston.Through the SPARK (STEAM Pathways through AmeriCorps Resources for Kids) AmeriCorps Program, members help expand access to high-quality academic and STEAM learning opportunities for students in under-resourced schools and communities.This is an opportunity for individuals interested in education, youth development, STEM, community service, and leadership to make a meaningful difference while building valuable professional experience.What You'll DoSPARK AmeriCorps Members provide direct service to students through two complementary components: school-day academic support and after-school STEM enrichment.Members will:Provide one-on-one and small-group academic support to elementary and middle school students.Reinforce teacher-directed classroom instruction and help students build confidence as learners.Facilitate hands-on STEM activities in coding, robotics, engineering, computational thinking, and digital literacy.Support engaging, project-based after-school STEM programming.Prepare instructional materials, technology, and other resources needed for student activities.Support Family STEM Nights and other community engagement activities.Build positive, supportive relationships with students, school partners, families, and fellow AmeriCorps membersplete required program documentation and service-related records.Participate in AmeriCorps orientation, training, professional development, and National Days of Service.Professional DevelopmentMembers receive comprehensive professional development throughout their service term, including training in:STEM instruction and facilitationYouth developmentClassroom managementLeadershipCareer readinessMembers may also have opportunities to participate in specialized training and earn professional certificates or credentials as available.Service CommitmentThis is a 1,200-hour AmeriCorps service opportunity running from October 5, 2026 through June 16, 2027.Members are expected to serve approximately 40 hours per week. Service primarily takes place Monday through Thursday at school and community partner sites, with Fridays generally dedicated to planning, preparation, training, and professional development.Service takes place in partnership with schools and community organizations across Boston, Somerville, and Lowell, Massachusetts.What You'll GainAmeriCorps service is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while building experience and skills that can support your next step in education or your career.As a SPARK AmeriCorps Member, you will receive:A living allowance distributed throughout your service term.A Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of your 1,200-hour service commitment, which may be used for eligible educational expenses or to repay qualified student loans.Hands-on professional experience working directly with students, educators, schools, and community organizationsprehensive training in STEM instruction, youth development, classroom management, leadership, and career readiness.Opportunities to participate in specialized professional training and earn certificates or credentials, as available.Practical experience facilitating coding, robotics, engineering, computational thinking, and digital literacy activities - no prior STEM expertise required.Opportunities to develop transferable skills in leadership, communication, teaching, teamwork, problem-solving, and community engagement.Experience that can help prepare you for future opportunities in education, youth development, nonprofits, public service, STEM programming, and community-based organizations.The opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students and help young people develop confidence, curiosity, and a stronger sense of what is possible for their futures.Most importantly, you will finish your service term having spent a year doing work that matters - helping students access learning opportunities and experiences they might not otherwise have.QualificationsWe are looking for candidates who:Are at least 17 years old.Have a high school diploma or GED.Are passionate about working with children and young people.Have an interest in education, STEM, community service, or youth development.Are dependable, professional, and able to communicate effectively.Can work collaboratively with students, educators, community partners, and fellow team members.Are willing to learn and participate fully in training and professional development.Can reliably travel to assigned service locations.Previous experience working with children or youth is strongly preferred. You do not need to be a STEM expert.
