Job description

Ready to help build a more sustainable future through electric vehicles? Then we want to talk to you. EV Connect believes in electricity as a fuel to help solve the challenges we face with climate change and pollution. That's why we've developed one of the most flexible and reliable EV charging solutions on the market, giving businesses and organizations the tools they need to support a growing number of EV drivers. As we continue to scale, the reliability, security, and maturity of our cloud platform are critical to our success. We are looking for a Principal DevOps Engineer to join our DevOps team and help lead the next stage of our infrastructure, developer platform, and software delivery maturity. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who has deep experience with cloud-native infrastructure, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, observability, automation, and secure software delivery. The ideal candidate has experience working in a platform engineering environment and has helped engineering teams move faster through reusable tools, standardized patterns, self-service capabilities, and clear operational guardrails. You will help define and implement platform capabilities that improve release reliability, developer productivity, infrastructure resiliency, security, and operational excellence across our SaaS platform. What You'll Do * Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of EV Connect's cloud infrastructure, DevOps platform, and software delivery practices. * Build and improve reusable developer platform capabilities, including CI/CD workflows, Terraform modules, Helm charts, Kubernetes deployment patterns, GitOps workflows, and infrastructure automation. * Develop standardized workflows and paved paths that help engineering teams build, deploy, observe, and operate services safely and independently. * Improve release reliability by reducing manual coordination, strengthening automated validation, improving deployment guardrails, and increasing production visibility. * Partner with Engineering, QA, Product, Security, and Architecture teams to improve deployment safety, release confidence, and developer velocity. * Drive improvements to Kubernetes-based deployment strategies, including canary deployments, rollback patterns, release orchestration, and production readiness practices. * Provide technical leadership for AWS cloud architecture, EKS, networking, IAM, observability, infrastructure automation, and operational resiliency. * Improve monitoring, logging, alerting, dashboards, runbooks, incident response, and post-incident follow-up practices. * Embed security, compliance, and governance into DevOps workflows, including vulnerability scanning, secrets management, IAM/RBAC, policy enforcement, and secure cloud configuration. * Identify operational gaps and lead initiatives that improve scalability, reliability, security, cost efficiency, and maintainability. * Mentor senior engineers and provide technical guidance across cloud, DevOps, Kubernetes, CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure best practices. * Help establish standards and guardrails that allow engineering teams to own their services while maintaining platform consistency and operational control. You Should Have Experience With * Deep hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native architectures. * Strong experience with Kubernetes, preferably AWS EKS, including production operations, ingress, autoscaling, networking, deployments, and troubleshooting. * Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools. * Strong CI/CD experience using tools such as GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar platforms. * Experience building reusable DevOps or platform engineering capabilities such as deployment templates, shared pipelines, Terraform modules, Helm charts, or self-service workflows. * Experience supporting high-availability, customer-facing SaaS platforms. * Strong understanding of observability practices, including logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, alerting, SLOs, and incident response. * Experience improving release reliability through automation, deployment standards, health checks, rollback patterns, and operational guardrails. * Experience integrating security into DevOps workflows, including vulnerability management, container scanning, secrets management, IAM, and cloud security controls. * Strong scripting or programming experience using tools such as Python, Bash, YAML, or similar. * Ability to lead technical design discussions, influence architecture decisions, and guide engineering teams toward scalable and maintainable solutions. * Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. We'd Like to Talk to You If * You have 10+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or related roles. * You have experience working in a platform engineering or internal developer platform environment. * You have helped engineering teams adopt standardized CI/CD, infrastructure automation, GitOps, Kubernetes, or self-service deployment capabilities. * You have experience defining or implementing paved paths, service templates, deployment standards, or internal developer workflows. * You have experience improving release reliability, deployment automation, operational maturity, or developer productivity. * You have experience with incident response, production support, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement practices. * You have experience working cross-functionally with Engineering, QA, Product, Security, Architecture, and Operations teams. * You are comfortable operating as a hands-on technical leader while also mentoring others and influencing broader engineering practices. We'd Especially Like to Talk to You If * You have AWS certifications, such as AWS Solutions Architect Professional, AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, or AWS Security Specialty. * You have experience with GitOps, ArgoCD, Helm, Istio, Flagger, Argo Rollouts, or progressive delivery practices. * You have experience with SOC 2, PCI, ISO 27001, NIST, or other compliance-driven environments. * You have experience with disaster recovery, multi-region architecture, backup/restore strategies, and resiliency testing. * You have experience improving DORA metrics, deployment frequency, change failure rate, MTTR, or other software delivery metrics. * You have experience with cloud cost optimization, tagging strategies, forecasting, and financial governance. * You have EV industry experience with station integration or open protocols like OCPP, OCPI, or OpenADR. What Success Looks Like In this role, success means helping EV Connect make meaningful progress toward a more reliable, scalable, and developer-friendly platform. Within the first 6-12 months, this person should help us: * Improve production release reliability and reduce manual deployment risk. * Establish reusable and standardized DevOps patterns across engineering teams. * Improve developer self-service capabilities with clear platform guardrails. * Strengthen Kubernetes, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and observability practices. * Improve incident response, monitoring, alerting, and operational readiness. * Embed security and compliance into cloud and DevOps workflows. * Provide technical leadership that raises the bar for cloud, DevOps, and platform engineering.
