Job description

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an Embedded Software Engineer 3 in Irving, TX. The work will be done onsite full time, Monday through Friday, with a first-shift schedule. This is a 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $76/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay). The position may require 0–25% domestic travel.
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to develop advanced positioning, localization, and state-estimation software for autonomous and semi-autonomous systems. This role will research and design localization algorithms and convert them into production-quality C++ software using perception, inertial measurement, and GNSS inputs. The engineer will contribute throughout the development lifecycle, including requirements, architecture, design, coding, debugging, documentation, functional safety, and validation. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong background in C++, robotics, state estimation, and autonomous systems to work on technically challenging real-world applications.
Key Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and implement localization and state-estimation algorithms for autonomous and semi-autonomous systems.
  • Develop production-quality C++ software, including design, documentation, coding, debugging, profiling, product quality, and validation.
  • Develop positioning solutions using perception-based, inertial measurement, and GNSS inputs.
  • Contribute to requirements development and architectural design for localization systems.
  • Support functional safety software design and validation activities.
  • Troubleshoot complex software and application issues by analyzing code, logs, system behavior, and diagnostic information.
  • Collaborate with and mentor localization team members while moving technical concepts from prototype through production.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or PhD from an accredited program in Robotics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, or approximately 2+ years with a Master’s degree. Relevant internship experience may be considered.
  • Excellent C++ software development skills and strong engineering practices.
  • Fluency in Python.
  • Knowledge of state estimation and inertial measurement technology.
  • Strong debugging, profiling, technical troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and ability to interpret system designs, development plans, and functional documentation.
  • Ability to analyze technical alternatives, risks, and benefits and contribute to engineering decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a technical team.
  • Must be comfortable working onsite full time in Irving, TX.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of robotics and/or autonomous systems experience demonstrating strong technical domain expertise.
  • Experience implementing filtering algorithms, including Kalman Filters, Extended Kalman Filters (EKF), and Error-State filtering.
  • In-depth knowledge of Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), inertial navigation, and/or guidance systems.
  • Experience with localization, SLAM, state estimation, and graph optimization libraries.
  • Experience with robotics frameworks such as ROS (Robot Operating System).
  • Strong mathematical foundation including 3D geometry, linear algebra, coordinate transformations, and statistical error modeling.
  • Ability to review technical literature or research papers and translate concepts into production-ready implementations.
  • Understanding of physics-based modeling, vehicle modeling, and vehicle dynamics.
  • Demonstrated initiative in researching and prototyping solutions to complex engineering problems.

Why This Role?
This position offers the opportunity to work on advanced robotics, autonomous systems, localization, and positioning technologies that move sophisticated algorithms from research and prototype stages into real-world production applications. You will collaborate with experienced technical specialists while solving challenging problems involving C++, state estimation, sensor fusion, inertial navigation, and autonomous machine technology. Cullerton Group provides a professional environment with strong growth potential and the opportunity to contribute to innovative engineering programs with a global manufacturing leader.
