Job description

Program Specialist

Texas Workforce Commission connects people with careers across the state. While we are based in Austin on the north lawn of the Texas State Capitol, we have offices statewide. We're a Family Friendly Certified Workplace with great work-life balance, competitive salaries, extensive opportunities for training and development, and fantastic benefits. Our main office is located at 1117 Trinity St, Austin, Texas. This position is in the Office of Employer Engagement and Community Outreach. TWC is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa, including those with H1B visas or those currently on student or postgraduate visas. You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas.

You love meeting new people and the challenge of keeping several balls in the air simultaneously. You are passionate about keeping Texas at the forefront of business climate and workforce development. You thrive when learning, sharing, and collaborating under moderate supervision. This position requires 35% travel. You will need to live in one of these counties since these are the counties served by the position: Bell, Bosque, Brown, Callahan, Coleman, Comanche, Coryell, Eastland, Falls, Fisher, Freestone, Hamilton, Haskell, Hill, Jones, Kent, Knox, Lampasas, Limestone, McLennan, Milam, Mills, Mitchell, Nolan, Runnels, San Saba, Scurry, Shackelford, Stephens, Stonewall, Taylor, Throckmorton. The Program Specialist III performs complex (journey-level) consultative services and technical assistance work. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

You will be a part of a fantastic team sharing employer-focused opportunities with businesses, colleges, non-profits, and other workforce development stakeholders all around the state. You will meet, engage, learn, educate, coordinate, present, research, plan, and provide technical assistance to a diverse audience of new and long-time partners. You'll create and nurture new and existing relationships and provide world-class customer service. You'll discover and address workforce development needs while remaining flexible and adaptable to new challenges and opportunities. But most importantly, you'll contribute to a great mission.

You qualify with:

  • One year and six months of full-time experience in the development, implementation, or interpretation of policies and procedures in a public or private agency.
  • Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.

You are a great fit with:

  • Project management experience within a business, economic development organization, chamber of commerce, state agency, workforce development board, and or community college environment
  • Experience with presentation preparation, public speaking, sales, marketing, outreach techniques, and public relations
  • Experience with grant development and review
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

You gain:

  • A Family Friendly Certified Workplace.
  • Competitive starting salary: $4,473.00 - $5,512.00/month.
  • Defined Retirement Benefit Plan.
  • Optional 401(k) and 457 accounts.
  • Medical Insurance.
  • Paid time off, including time for vacation, sick and family care leave.
