It requires a leader that can staff, develop, and lead a team of engineers and designers to accomplish program work. This individual will also apply mechanical engineering principles to design, develop, and support L3Harris FOS product lines during new product design, development, and legacy product production. This role interacts with a multidisciplinary design team and works within established design guidelines to ensure products meet or exceed customer and industry specifications. This role also supports production of existing products, working with manufacturing and quality to troubleshoot issues, document changes, and adhere to AS9100 and ISO9001 quality standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead mechanical design efforts for assigned programs, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, internal standards, and industry specifications.
  • Develop and mature mechanical designs from concept through qualification and production release using mechanical engineering knowledge and established design practices.
  • Generate and maintain engineering drawings, models, and technical documentation in accordance with configuration management requirements.
  • Create, revise, and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, compliance matrices, and related documentation in accordance with company, customer, and industry standards.
  • Define and support qualification and environmental testing (thermal, vibration, shock), including test planning and reporting.
  • Perform and/or collaborate with engineering analysts to execute finite element analysis (FEA) and/or other analytical assessments.
  • Participate and/or lead in failure investigations related to design, production builds, and fielded products to find root cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare and present materials for internal and customer design reviews.
  • Support active production efforts, including tooling and test fixture design, product troubleshooting, drawing and document updates, process control improvements, and design enhancements.
  • Support the Department Manager with staffing, labor planning, and resource allocation to meet program commitments.
  • Execute performance management activities including goal setting, feedback, development planning, and succession planning.
  • Support the definition, maintenance, and continuous improvement of departmental processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Act as a mentor and coach for day-to-day technical guidance and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or other related Engineering field and a minimum 6 years of prior relevant work experience.
  • Graduate degree and a minimum of 4 years prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Experience with CAD (Solid Edge, SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and drawing standards.
  • Experience with design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA).
  • Must be able to obtain a US Security Clearance.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with highly regulated products (DoD, aerospace, defense, or similar industries).
  • Strong working knowledge of structural mechanics, vibration, and thermal design.
  • Knowledgeable in engineering materials (metals, polymers, elastomers).
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis tools and methods.
  • Experience with verification and qualification environmental testing.
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
