Position Summary
The Industrial / Systems Engineer will be responsible for understanding the basic industrial process and systems engineering work processes and modeling tools, and performing industrial engineering tasks having a minor degree of complexity.
The Industrial / Systems Engineer will be responsible for reviewing and checking systems engineering documentation. The Systems Engineer will be required to become familiar with relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
Responsibilities
- Prepare industrial process / functional / system analysis to define facility / system / equipment design requirements.
- Establish means of verifying requirements implementation, including acceptance criteria.
- Prepare equipment, system, and facility design criteria documents.
- Support system-level design verification, requirements verification, test requirements specification, and requirements flowdown and traceability.
- Perform impact analyses for proposed requirement changes.
- Perform assessments to validate and verify implementation and traceability of requirements into design.
- Participate in technical discussions to resolve system design issues.
- Research and document system operations and limits from the review of design and basis documents and from discussions with system designers.
- Perform model-based systems engineering using a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS)
- Automation tool (e.g. IBM® Rationale DOORS® or Innoslate by Spec Innovations).
- Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, materials, and computers used within the systems engineering discipline.
- Knowledge of project controls within systems engineering.
- Knowledge of industry / regulatory codes and standards, and design criteria pertinent to the systems engineering discipline.
- Skilled in oral and written communication.
Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial / Systems Engineering or a related field (e.g. Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Nuclear Engineering) from an accredited university or college with at least 3 years of relevant technical experience.
- US citizenship required; no dual citizenship accepted.
- This role requires a facility-specific clearance that requires US citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain a site security badge for access to the worksite.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possess an understanding of Industrial / Systems Engineering principles and methods.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities : extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and / or confined spaces.
Preferred Qualifications
- International Council of Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Certification.
- Experience with systems engineering on DOE or DOD projects.
- Familiarity with implementation of requirements in design.
- Experience working with requirements management databases.
- Experience in performing design and / or requirements change impact analysis.
