Job description

Associate Director, Epic Clinical Program Manager (Laboratory & Pathology)

Guidehouse's Health Technology Consulting (HTC) practice is seeking an Associate Director, Epic Clinical Program Manager (Laboratory & Pathology) to clinical technology transformations across our Commercial Health client portfolio, with a focus on laboratory and pathology services. This individual will serve as a trusted advisor to health system executives, laboratory leadership, and IT organizations, helping clients successfully implement, optimize, and scale Epic Beaker and related laboratory technologies.

Laboratory transformation programs are operationally complex and highly visible. Success requires more than project management. It requires a leader who understands laboratory operations, pathology workflows, Epic Beaker, instrumentation, interfaces, and regulatory requirements, and who can drive alignment across stakeholders to deliver measurable outcomes.

This is a client-facing leadership role. The Associate Director will own executive relationships, lead large-scale engagements, contribute to business development, and bring deep laboratory and Epic expertise to every client interaction.

Lead Complex Technology Transformation Programs

  • Lead enterprise technology initiatives from planning through stabilization, ensuring successful delivery of technology, operational, and business objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Establishing program governance, priorities, and rollout strategies
  • Leading project and workstream execution
  • Managing scope, staffing, risks, dependencies, and executive escalations
  • Driving executive reporting and stakeholder alignment
  • Leading cutover, go-live, stabilization, and transition-to-support activities

Align Operations, Technology, and Vendors

  • Serve as the primary liaison across laboratory operations, pathology, IT, Epic teams, infrastructure, interface teams, DI, RALS, and third-party vendors.
  • You will be responsible for removing barriers, managing cross-functional dependencies, and ensuring decisions are made quickly and effectively to keep programs on track.

Deliver Epic Beaker and Laboratory Expertise

  • Provide leadership and guidance on:
    • Epic Beaker implementation and optimization
    • Laboratory workflow transformation
    • Testing and validation strategy
    • Accreditation-compliant documentation and change control
    • Instrumentation and interface integration
    • Operational readiness and adoption planning
    • Translate technical and operational complexity into actionable recommendations that improve performance, scalability, and long-term supportability.

Grow the Practice

  • Support client growth, proposal development, and thought leadership activities. Identify opportunities to expand relationships and deliver additional value across existing accounts.

Develop High-Performing Teams

  • Lead consulting teams across multiple workstreams while providing coaching, resource planning, staffing oversight, and talent development.

What We Are Looking For

  • The ideal candidate has deep experience leading clinical technology programs and understands how to deliver successful outcomes in complex healthcare environments. They are comfortable leading executives, challenging assumptions, managing large programs, and driving decisions that improve operations and technology performance.
  • Success in this role is defined by delivering successful technology programs, achieving operational readiness at go-live, maintaining regulatory and accreditation compliance, aligning diverse stakeholder groups, and driving measurable improvements in operations and performance.

What You Will Need

  • MINIMUM of EIGHT (8) years of experience in healthcare IT consulting, laboratory systems, EHR implementation, or laboratory operations
  • Associates degree or higher required; we can substituted years of experience for degree
  • Deep Epic Beaker expertise, including certification in Beaker CP, Beaker AP, or related modules
  • Proven experience leading large-scale laboratory, pathology, or Epic implementation programs
  • Experience managing executive stakeholders and complex multi-workstream engagements
  • Strong understanding of laboratory operations, testing, interfaces, instrumentation, and operational readiness
  • Knowledge of CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, and laboratory accreditation requirements
  • Demonstrated experience leading consulting teams and developing client relationships
  • Candidate Status Allowed: US Citizen, Permanent Resident, Green Card Holder

What Would Be Nice To Have

  • Master's degree in Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field
  • PMP or equivalent project/program management certification
  • Experience with Data Innovations, point of care, blood bank systems and instrument middleware platforms
  • Experience supporting multi-hospital health systems and enterprise transformations
  • Experience with interoperability standards including HL7 and FHIR
  • Experience supporting automation, analytics, digital transformation, or AI-enabled initiatives

The annual salary range for this position is $135,000.00-$225,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
