Job Description
Responsibilities Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages -yrs. Newport News has an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. Newport News, VA is a beautiful seaside city, rich in maritime history and conveniently located to DC and other major North Eastern cities.
Position Summary
Provides efficient and effective management and coordination of activities of the center (RTC, Acute) and directly supervises Senior Lead Mental Health Technicians (SLMHTs), Lead Mental Health Technicians (LMHTs), Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) to assure the safety and security of the facility is maintained at all times. Participates in the development and implementation of resident behavioral programs, following facility policies and procedures, providing crisis intervention and treatment interventions as prescribed. Manages ShiftHound scheduling program.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the efficient operation of the treatment milieu during assigned shift(s) including the implementation of resident activities and experiences in accordance with facility policies, procedures, and philosophy.
- Manages and coordinates Senior Lead MHT, Lead MHT and MHT schedules for RTC and Acute. Ensures that all schedules are organized utilizing Shift Hound Program
- Perpares schedules and assignments, complete’s record of attendance, and approve’s Time off Request’s (i.e., Calls out/Calls off, PTO, ELB, LOA, etc.)
- Coordinates with Transportation Coordinator and Program Coordinators to determine MHTs Monitors calendars noting when off campus trips are to occur and insures that sufficient staff are available to assist in said trips.
- Coordinates with payroll to verify hours worked, check time sheets to ensure staff is working scheduled hours, and tracks overtime and fte management.
- Assures that the milieu addresses the strengths and deficiencies of each resident by modeling, monitoring, training, and implementing the defined program.

Qualifications Requires a Associates Degree in Business, Psychology, Social Work or related field in Human Services from an accredited College and/or University or Bachelors Degree and at least 2 years of management experience working in a residential, acute or inpatient psychiatric setting. Relevant work experience can be substituted for education requirement. Experience with substance abuse or sexually aggressive children and adolescents is required. Must be able to maintain a stable environment and to provide guidance to Senior Lead Mental Health Technicians (SLMHTs), Lead Mental Health Technicians (LMHTs), Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) and residents. The incumbent may be on call hours per day 7 days per week to assist with scheduling issues that may occur during normal business. System administration background or previous experience with staffing/scheduling issues a plus. Must be able to deal with diverse and stressful situations in a calm manner, must be detailed oriented with a high degree of accuracy, and must have good organizational and computer skills. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be Handle with Care, CPR and First Aid certified and hold a valid Virginia Driver’s License.
