This position coordinates all instructional and academic activities within the department and supervises curriculum / course development for Curriculum Education and Workforce Continuing Education. The Department Head also serves as the first-line manager of personnel, supplies, equipment, and facilities of the department

Responsibilities and Duties (

  • Essential Functions)

  • Coordinate all of the instructional and academic activities within the assigned department(s) and subject area(s)
  • Responsible for keeping the Division Dean informed of the operation of the supervisory unit
  • Provide leadership and supervision of a managerial team that may consist of associate department heads and program directors with a combined full time faculty count of twenty or more in the respective curriculum area, and / or provides oversight over substantive, multiple disciplines
  • Provide comprehensive instructional leadership and support for all faculty (curriculum and WCE) within the discipline, including onboarding, mentoring, classroom support, and instructional quality oversight
  • Engage in strategic planning for credit and non-credit offerings, using labor market data, enrollment trends, industry feedback, and institutional goals to guide program direction and assist in the achievement of division goals
  • Develop, maintain, and supervise long-range Institutional Effectiveness assessment plans that may include planning, developing, and reporting the program mission, goals, and program / student learning outcomes
  • Ensures programs and courses are effectively measuring program and student learning outcomes
  • Conduct ongoing discipline-specific needs assessments, including consultation with industry partners, to inform new program and course development for both CU and WCE audiences
  • Review and ensure the timely and accurate submission of all instructional records and documentation, including WCE rosters, contracts, and attendance logs, in coordination with the Shared Services Center (SSC).
  • Coordinate with the SSC and off-campus partners to manage logistics for site-based instruction, including classes delivered at external or employer-hosted locations
  • Ensure that all faculty receive the instructional materials, resources, and administrative support necessary to successfully deliver courses across credit and non-credit formats
  • Manage curriculum enrollment growth and ensure ongoing development of department program(s)

    Supervise curriculum / course development and ensures currency of the curriculum

    Supervise, evaluate, and coordinate departmental course offerings

    Lead the development of full-time and adjunct faculty teaching schedules

    Select Advisory Committee members and coordinate advisory committee development and projects

    Participate in articulation initiatives

    Coordinate and participate in open houses and other student recruitment events

    Coordinate high school enrollment opportunities

    Maintain catalog, website, and brochure accuracy

    Plan and conduct faculty and student orientation and monthly department meetings

    Participate in or develop faculty training and / or development

    Supervise program reviews

    Review and recommend changes in curricula and prepare proposals for new curricula, based on the recommendations of the Associate Department Head, Program Directors, and faculty

    Manage advising processes

    Process degree audits, course substitutions, transcript evaluations, and other like duties

    Participate in resolution of faculty and student issues

    Develop and implement strategies to promote student persistence and completion of programs

    Identify and address workforce needs and implement initiatives to meet these needs

    Maintain challenge exams

    Ensure currency of course syllabi

    Supervise textbook selection, revision, and periodic reviews. Ensure book orders are placed in a timely manner

    Attends professional development activities

    Serves on college or divisional committees as needed

    Participates in graduation exercises

    Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

    Requirements :

    Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field

    Two years teaching experience in a related field

    Two years supervisory or leadership experience

    Three years industry experience in an area covered within this department

    Preferences :

    Five years supervisory experience

    Experience in a community college or similar higher education setting
